What do you think of Diamonds And Pearls Video Collection (VHS/ DVD)?

I actually liked the D&P Video Collection. Some described the interviews with the NPG band members as "who cares?" although I liked the snippet of Rosie Gaines' "Dr Feelgood".

There is a video of "Daddy Pop" that was cut from the final video. The director put it out after Prince died. It's somewhere on YT or Vimeo.

The video overall is clear evidence that Prince can, and did, put his head to it and create a commercially viable record put 100% behind it with videos, a tour, TV appearances, singles, etc., and make that money. Not that he hadn't done stuff before, but he was in a slump after Lovesexy. Batman pulled him back commercially, then he got a big head with movies and fucked everyone with Graffiti Bridge. But then he honed it down again, spruced up the band and set out to kick some ass again.

I only wish songs like "Thunder" and "Daddy Pop" were presented in full.

I loved it so much back in the day. The pre internet days. Seeing Prince was always exciting when I could.

I love it, the full versions of all the videos. Remembering it was the Cream video that made me a fan. Camp and cringey maybe but I still love it. Diamond and Pearl could dance their asses off, and Prince was just so in control.

I got plenty good loving for ya baby

It's ok but it could easily have been expanded.
At the very least why not include the Gett Off video e.p on the dvd release.
Strollin' looked great as well...it so easily could have been a hit with a full video instead of the shortened version included.

I enjoyed it. I used to watch that home video (and the Arsenio '91 show) back to back.

Absolutely loved it at the time as I’d just become a fan after seeing the Gett Off video in 91.

What a great statement. I completely agree. Some folks don't have a clue about pre-internet days and you are so right when you say how exciting it was to see Prince on anything as we didn't have him at click. Seeing him in a magazine, video or tv was amazing.

Yeah exactly. There was no YouTube back then.

It's not an outtake from this film, it's from a press kit.

I purchased the VHS on the day of release. Back then I was super pissed by the unecessary Strollin' edit and other live edits but it was nice to have the other vids, as said above it was precious in those pre-internet days. The new recording of Willing And Able blew my mind, too.

I need to do that! I also had the VHS The Hits..it was amazing because as a new fan back then it was the first time I saw his early preformances from the pre PR days...up until then I only saw still photographs of his Rude Boy days in books...i fully grasped how energetic and original a live performer he was from that compilation.
