Funny the long version of Vicki Waiting leaves me cold, glad he removed the funky guitar and shortened it! Always thought there was no reason he didn’t put the full version of Delirious on a 12” during 1999 era. Also Databank would of been great just released on a 12” just out of the blue “12 INCH! Think it ain’t!”

Yup, you're right.
But this is around the time where Prince's maxi-singles started to sound more like standard remixes of the song,
instead of proposing a reinvention or an extension of the song.

I mean, Shep Pettibone on "Hot Thing", cleaning the original dirt with a squeaky clean sound, not my cup of tea.
The 7 minutes Mo'Quake is fun, but it's just mixing table button pushing.
It's great, you can hear some parts soloed, but I can't call it an "extended" version.
To me it has to imply some kind of rewriting, or writing of additional original parts,
to qualify as extended: "Pop Life", "America", "Kiss", "Mountains" are fine examples.

The 9 minute version of "Pop life" is spectacular though! I get what you are saying and appreciate your view on it!

I edited my response because aqpparently I didn't get what you were saying until I read it again LOL! "Let's work" and "Let's go crazy" are other fine examples of what you are talking about.

nod

There's also the curious case of "The Future": I think William Orbit did a fantastic job on it, hinting at the unabashed creativity he would later display on Madonna's Ray Of Light (the album).

Back to the subject, I'm thinking about "The Word".
I wouldn't mind an extra minute or two of guitar/sax interplay.

The SOTT ones that suggest a transition into a "Part II" near the end.
"The Ballad Of Dorothy Parker", "Forever In My Life", "U Got The Look".

"U got the look" has an extended version that was officially released on the 12" single.

There's an unreleased extended version of The Ballad of Dorothy Parker too.

If "extended version" means "the uncut, unedited original recording", then I want it all.

.
If it means "jamming some more" (such as on "I Wish U Heaven parts 1-3"), then sure, I'll probably love it.

.

If it means taking the original recording and editing it, cutting it up, remixing it, adding effects to it etc etc just to create a longer or a "dancefloor-friendly" version, then I'm not interested.

I think the shortness of it is what makes it brilliant.
Do you really want ten minutes of weeping cellos?

Great track and I see your point, but I want more. Searing guitar, more weeping cellos, whatever.

(Insert something clever here)

I could be wrong, but it doesn't sound genuine to me.
Doesn't sound like SOTT at all.
More like fan-made.

The one that's circulated, yes, but there is apparently an uncirculating genuine extended version.

Billy Jack Bitch.

The extended version has a killer horn section. I've always wished I had it in pristine quality, as I simply can't enjoy the original version knowing what it's missing.

I have the Trust decent quality but the my Electric Chair seems to be stuck back on what was on Work It 2.0.

Its seems, for the 84-89 period, if a song faded out, there is a good chance there is a longer version, as opposed to remix.

If you look at ATWIAD:

Title track, fades out - We have a longer unreleased version.

Paisley Park - Has a natural ending, so it had to be remixed for a 12".

COFH - Natural ending - My guess no long version.

Raspberry - Fade out, my guess carried on, maybe parts used on the remix.

Tamborine - Natural ending - My guess, no long version.

America - Fades out. Long version then released.

Pop Life - Fades out. Long version then released.

Temptation - Natural ending - My guess, no long version.

That leaves a possible unreleased long cut of the Ladder, as it fades out.

Following the same formular, you could then expect long versions of:

Ballad of Dorothy (confirmed)

Slow Love

Forever In My Life

Strange Relationship

The Cross

You Got The Look (leaked)

Hot Thing

Other contenders with the same through process:

17 Days (Leaked)

Irresistable Bitch

How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore

The Future

And so on.

Then there is a chance that many songs are edits, often to fit in with the limitations of vinyl. We already know thats the case for tracks like Delirious, Take Me With U.
