A 1,000 Hugs And Kisses v. 1000 X's & O's

Which version do you prefer? The one from the early 90s (A 1,000 Hugs And Kisses) or the one that was released on Hitnrun Phase One (1000 X's & O's)?

A certain kind of mellow.

Both are fab but the 90s one has the edge for me, would love to hear the Rosie Gaines version. Which do you prefer Mikado?

Does anyone know if the song is inspired by anyone in particular?

Me? Well, I think the 90s version has a bit more passion and I love Nona Gaye's vocals - I feel like a woman's vocals are really an important part of the song, and it's more of a duet, which I love. It does feel a bit generic, though.

The one on Hitnrun is sort of another song in the running theme of "cosmic love" that Prince was into writing about in the 2010s - love as a metaphor, so to speak. The instrumental is a lot cooler emotionally and is just, well, cool. But the absense of any female vocals and the lack of passion or lust from Prince (another example of the whole cosmic love thing) sort of make it a bit flat.

But he also comes the closest he did in the last 15 years or so of cursing so... lol

All in all they're two very different songs, but I guess I prefer the 90s version. I really do love Nona's vocals.

Never heard the 90's version but sure dig the HnRPO version.

Whose album is 90's version on or was it a single?

It's an outtake.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

The HitNRun version for me.
He played it in London in the 21 Nights show I went to - I was very pleasantly surprised

The HitnRun version is one of my favorite P songs! Keep the CD is my car at all times for when I need to hear it. I like to pretend Prince wrote it for me...lol!! When I'm feeling over worked and under appreciated I play it. The perfect amount of naughty & nice.

I like the original but prefer the HNR version.
Even though I can’t help but sing Don’t Look Any Further to it

Torn on this 1, both r dope, but I'm leaning more towards the original, the beat, so 90s touched.

For all time I am with you, you are with me.

I just listened to the original for the first time in ages, has a better quality version ever leaked?

I loved the original ever since the first listen years ago. I would love to hear Rosie's version as well. I really liked how P and the NPG would flip those 60's and 70's style melodies with their modern sound in the early 90's.

Original version is corny to me.

1000 X's & O's is an all-time favorite for me. Bumping beat...love the way he sings it!
