That if I release albums as good as Purple Rain & Sign o' the Times, I can get away with some major career fuckups & even sue my fans & there would still be a large number of people willing to kiss my ass.

To repect the music, and ALWAYS think about melody. DONT play scales, and dont try to sound like him or anybody else.

He taught me how to be an imp the perverse!

He also was a great example in how he often did all of his music himself, on his own. The DIY mentality of it.

To be yourself. To live a carefree life and also to create your own world if possible if you struggle to fit in the mainstream. Prince also lived off the grid somewhat and that is a must if you aren't happy with how society runs.

Let people talk and trash talk, whether you are a public figure or not because at the end of the day, it is best to live your true self.

Prince taught me to work hard at music. He also taught me to NOT pretend to be something I'm not or I might end up dying alone from self-treating pain that I was afraid to share because I don't want to be seen as anything less than perfect.

He showed me that it's okay to be a misfit, I know I'll always be one but I'm not sad about it anymore. He taught me that it is okay and cool to be different. I don't strive to be the person people refere to as "normal". I don't want to hide the real me anymore.

There were quite a lot of his songs that i didn't like when I first heard them.

Until I heard alternative (live or demo) versions of them.

With many of these he gave me this "Okay, now I understand it!"-effect.

Many, many times. And I loved it!

And sometimes it was the other way round:

I knew his Data Bank '86 first (and adored it immediatly!), and couldn't believe what it was turned into when I heard the "The Time"-version of it...

So, he taught me not to judge too quickly, I guess...

His music gave me a greater appreciation of music in general, by delving deeper into his musical influences, and embracing challenging material that I thought I wouldn't be able to "get." He broadened my musical palate.
