Prince & Kim Basinger

Does anyone know the story about Prince & Kim Basinger beyond the basic stuff that they dated?

I read a tribute book about Prince for his 60th birthday; it's got the Prince/the Hitz picture of him on the front.

Anyhoo...the contention is that Kim Basinger was so into him that her family had to go and physically get her from Paisley Park when Prince wasn't around; she was supposedly obsessed with him.

I never heard this stuff before. Am I the only one who didn't know that?

Use the Google custom search box at the upper right and search. There are threads from the past with some good stuff to read.

This doesn't awnser your question but I remember my father had the hots for Kim Basinger in the 1980s and he was not happy she was dating Prince. But he did take my sister and I to see the original Batman in the theater and that was awesome. I loved all the Prince tunes.

I think Kim and Prince were hot and heavy for a while but it ended badly but I heard he helped her out financially when she backed out of a movie Boxing Helena. That movie was weird.

I do confirm that the movie is weird.

They met whilst Kim was making Batman and he was doing the soundtrack. Apparently they had sex in his recording studio and the microphone was still on. The moans and groans u can hear on the Scandalous Sex Suite are from when they made out. biggrin

I think the unreleased song "I Wonder" may be about her - "A Southern gust of wind came and took my girl away from me..." I think the story of her family flying to PP and forcing her to leave is fairly accurate.

Kim was with Alec Baldwin at the time she backed out of the film, or during the time of the law suit. I remember watching a Barbara Walters special where she interviewd Kim, and she stated that Alec helped her financially with that situation. I would be surprised about Prince offering help after she left the way she did. No doubt one of his "paybacks' was adding the loop of her sexual moans on several of his songs lol

Later on he offered to help her financially...foget the circumstance. Didn't he offer commentary on a dress she wore to an awards show?

Also Kim left because she showed up unexpected and Prince was with Robin Power. He had Robin hide in a closet and Kim found her. It is in the Uptown Dames thread from 2005 and the story was straight from Robin herself.

I believe I read a story from Carmen Electra, who stated when she first came to PP and walked into what would become her bathroom to use, there was a bunch of makeup and toiletries laying on the counter. The employee who took her there said, "oh, that belonged to Kim B - we'll get that cleaned out for you". He was quite the hustler wasn't he? cool

Speaking of great threads of the past, I'm crushed by seeing all images URL broken,
but with time, it just happens. I'm thinking about the Graffiti Bridge alternative dialogs and lines,
which was hilarious with the pics.

On another note - can't believe Robin Power would hide in a closet for him. That has got to be a blow to the ego. Reminds me of that scene in the movie "He's Just Not That Into You" where Scarlett Johannson's character has to hide in a closet when Bradley Cooper's wife shows up at his office while they're having sex. Pretty bad all around....

Wow. I never heard that before. Prince did whatever he wanted. Sometimes I think I was in lust with the idea of Prince ...he seem like the ultimate, gentle , tender lover, as we know though I think many women who know can tell you reality was very different. He sure knew how to project (and protect) the ULTIMATE image I will give him that. The man was GENIUS in so many different ways!

I don't find it that unbelievable...Robin has ALWAYS understood her place in Prince's world...she understood who she was dealing with and never thought it was more than it was.. she totally was ok with all the other women...she just wanted him to honor their friendship and she was disappointed he wouldn't keep it real with her when she had already demonstrated she was totally ok with his lifestyle.

I guess for me it's a self respect thing. I wouldn't subject myself to that situation, but she obviously wanted the potential fame and fortune. I imagine his level of respect for her may have dwindled as well. I think he ultimately preferred the "good girls" over the others - not that it stopped him from doing his thing with them when the mood struck him smile

Sometimes I think Prince liked to test people, ...i wonder how that must of felt to have that kind of power over people and watch people compromise themselves for you. .makes me wanna take a shower when I try to imagine ick...but yes I agree Prince could compartmentalize his lovers very well...but one thing I read was he never made a woman feel dirty, gross or like a whore when they were intimate . Which actually I was happy to hear.

Yes, I think he was respectful with intimacy for the most part. I'm sure there were occasions when he might have shown a rougher, less romatic side - as with the Charlene Friend story. Not sure that all of what she said was true, but I"m sure there is some truth to her story. On the Diamonds and Pearls album she is thanked as "Charlie Friend". He also thanks Insomnia and Voyeurism smile I'm telling you, he was quite honest!

Jill Jones was another one that continued a sexual relationship with him whilst he had steady/serious girlfriends - Susanna for instance. He was a serial cheater. What a life for the woman in hiz life. It stresses me out just thinking about it Lol And yes Kim was quite smitten with him. One of the many he drove wild and/or mad!
As far as treating them all with respect I do remember reading about a "groupie" encounter that didn't end pleasantly for the girl. Then again, you can't have high expections going into a one night stand.

Yes, Jill stayed around as a "side" chick for quite a long time. I have no doubt that there were many not-so-great "groupie" encounters with Prince! In the published article "Prince In the 90's: An Oral History", one of his managers was interviewed, and he said at one point he had to have a talk with Prince to say, "look man, you have got to stop doing A&R with your dick!" Apparently, he would go out clubbing, meet a girl, and bring her back to PP for some late night fun in the studio, which would usually include recording songs. Another guy has a YT video posted about his time working at PP in the mid-90's. He said there was a regular group of very attractive girls who would frequent PP and "wander" around. They had pagers, and while he would be talking to them they would get paged and say, "oh, we have to go now" and would disappear through a door. Prince clearly had an uncontrollable libido biggrin

Prince's first song - For You -

All of this and more
Is for you
With love, sincerity and deepest care
My life with you I share

*

He stated in an interview - "if you want to know about my life, listen to my music. It's all in there.

*

Well, he wrote a song about "The One" (which was actually about him being monogamous), and I think he tried to follow that idea, but ultimately it didn't go so well confused

Yeah, right.

Or "Player" from 1990:

"I knew you heard all the stories about all the friends that I've got, but baby if you give me 7 years of your time, all the friends I would have not. Player, if I had you girl I wouldn't be one."

Never gave up the lovers, but I do believe someone had most of his heart for quite some time smile

Chris Rock once famously said "A man is basically as faithful as his OPTIONS". Prince had plenty of options. Women were probably throwing themselves at him every 10 minutes.

Yes, especially during the 80's, but all through the years. "Groupies" are always there to offer their services too. Although, I think certain male celebrities managed to avoid it, depending on the size of their libido. Paul Newman was famously quoted when asked about the women who would throw themselves at him: "why would I want to go out for hamburger when I can get steak at home?" - referring to his wife Joanne Woodward.
