one chronological release per year, starting with 1983....what a waste. |

If that’s their plan they are going to become completely redundant straight away - the bootleggers are decades ahead, and there doesn’t seem to be any interest in catching up! |

One Monday in April 2016, Tyka Nelson received a call from her brother, Prince. Tyka worked for Prince in the last four or five years of his life, and he would routinely bounce ideas off her for projects he wanted to get off the ground.
Is this call listed in the documents or is she making this up again? |

That was my first thought too. And I thought the Jackson's were bad at managing this stuff, but the Nelson's top it all. |

How many Prince experts does it take to ready a decent box set of unreleased tracks and rarities??? |

And Tyka also mentions releasing material even if it's 'not up to par'. Why even refer to Prince's legacy in such a way? |

She didn't say anything nice about him or his legacy since he died. |

Not entirely true. I know she has said some things that upset folks where his music was concerned, but there was an interview of hers when she referred to one of the NPG tributes stating that it was great and second best to her brother because no one is better than her brother. Also, she teared up when Purple Rain won best soundtrack at that AMA's.

Ugh!
The music HAS to be first. And more than 1 project a year for sure. A music club for fans that offers material that is not commercial enough for the masses is looking even more essential every day, or, we (all of us that care) will be long gone before they scratch the surface. (Long live bootlegs!!)
I'm down for t-shirts and other merch, but much of what they mention doesn't interest me at all.
Here's a merch idea: A coffee table book that contains reprints of ALL of his concert tourbooks. I'd buy that. I'd buy a few t-shirts, maybe a ballcap. I'd love to see McFarlane Toys produce detailed action figures for different stages of his career, but, I guess that might be considered idolatry by some.
But really, it has to be about the music (and video)!! We need more than a single project per year and we need some love shown to the projects that were not the hits (not from the 80s). CD's, Vinyl, DVDs and Blu-rays are the way to go, and if physical media is not cost effective, then downloads are better than nothing.
But really, be smart about how many copies of any given project are printed and price accordingly and EVERYTHING can be profitable in a physical media format. Boutique labels prove this with niche audio & video releases all the time. Learn from them or license to them.
Just sayin'... Liberty > Authority |
