I've seen the second coming trailer...i think..can't understand French

I couldn't copy and paste the link because it wouldn't let me. Anyhow it's on a website called www.arte.tv/fr/videos. Then look up prince sexy mother. I'll try to find another link to paste later. I need sleepfrom work. Sorry if this has been posted already. Anyhow if you find the video edit till the end. It's in French I think and I bet it's the trailer to the second coming. If this is false then my apologies.

Isn't that just an ad for the Sign O the Times movie and some other program with a load of random people talking about Prince?

It’s bits of the Sign O’ The Times movie with interviews from Prince’s bandmembers. And actually two bits of “The Second Coming” which were unseen and not in the previous documentary by Arte.

Arte TV is going to broadcast a new documentary called "Prince-Sexy Motherfucker" on July 20.

The trailer you saw contains snippets from the documentary (interviews with Sheila E. , Morris Hayes, Sonny Thompson etc.) and snippets from the Sign of the Times movie.

And yes, there´s two more seconds from the Second Coming film that were not included in the last snippet that Arte broadcast previously as part of another documentary. I made a thread about that a couple of years ago: http://prince.org/msg/7/440779

.

The new snippet shows him playing with his bubble gum a tad longer than in the previous snippet. wink

Where do you find the Arte TV channel? Is it on Sling, Hulu, or what the heck? Do you know a time?

Ok, I figured it out, went to the website. Kinda like a French U Tube. Hey, by the way, I figured out how to change it to English. Over there at the top right of the site where it says "FR" there is a drop-down to turn it into Englais! Can't wait to see this....................... flower

No, it´s TV channel, a French-German one. They usually make great documentaries.

What you have there is the website. You can watch their contents as a stream for a full week after the first broadcast. After seven days they remove the show or film from their website.

Real question is : who do you have to chase art Arte TV production studios ?
Who do we have to bribe, and how much ?
Who produces the documentary?

Filmmaker Chuck Statler said that not too long ago Prince had brought back the concert footage but NOT the story parts... which seems odd.

I guess it was about 10 years ago when Prince got the concert footage but never asked for the other stuff..

Prince got the concert footage back maybe 10 years ago. They only shot for a day or maybe two. There is not much too it.

Verdict: not even remotely interesting.

A collection of platitudes badly assembled by people who could have something interesting to say,
but obviously the interviewer.producer.whatever doesn't know squat about Prince.

Only interesting for the Hi Def Second Coming (really short) excerpt at the beginning.
The rest is just a montage of videos orchestrated by some Warner personnel in order to sell back catalogue to newbies.

An interesting documentary on Prince is still to be made.

Actually, it's even worse (watching it as I type).

Everyone except for good ol' Sonny T. seems to be pushing her own agenda.

From André Cymone raving about "all the things they did together" (?), Nik West (unknown to me to this day) saying she was discovered by Prince and how much Prince was able to recognize talent in young women (who the fuck is she anyway? Oh, "top" female bassist. Get the fuck outta here, you're just another vampire sucking his corpse), and Sheila who can't help retelling the marriage anecdote (which by the way, nobody except her knew about), this is a wreck.

I thought the same, then again this doc is aimed at those people who know little to nothing about Prince, not us.

If I'd seen something like this when I was 13 or 14, when I was beginning to get into Prince, I would have found it interesting. I'm sure many a kid found it instructive.

Those docs are all the same, one after the another, retelling the same narrative over and over again, but it's like oral tradition back in the days, instructing the new generation by rehashing the same tale.

Really, data?

No decent timeline, nothing about his first contract, no UTCM,
nothing about the Warner Wars, nothing about the side acts...
Come on, it's just a big, useless mess.

No, the docs are not the same, far from it.
The best so far is still this one.

Naw...P didn’t even buy the movie interludes that were shot, only the concert. He bought the concert footage from the director in the 2000’s I believe, but that project was completely unfinished

I'm pretty sure I watched it a year or 2 ago, and IIRC I was far from impressed. In all cases it's like time stopped in 1993, and it's the same narrative. The doc you've posted might be more accurate/detailed but did you learn anything you didn't already know?

Those people making documentaries for Arte and other TV channels don't aim at making anything satisfactory for anyone already familiar with the topic, they just aim at reaching the widest possible audience by giving an overview of the artist in question. Wanna learn real shit about an artist? Read books: there isn't a one hours-long docu that is gonna succeed at summarizing the 40 years-long career of an artist who released about 80 records and went through so many changes.

But then again I remember enjoying those quick cash docus when I was a teenager and didn't know shit about shit: they gave me an overview that was all I needed at the time.

But yeah, more chronology and a more comprehensive approach would have been better, I won't argue with you on that.
