That battle with WB took a toll on him and influenced his music/performances. Not to mention he caved to hip-hop where before he criticized it (Dead On t Krush Groove ). It wasn't just an F you attitude but almost a "walls are closing in, where do I stand in this brve new world" state of being.

To be honest, his 90's material could be entirely erased and his legen would still stand.

There's nothing in the 90's that became integral to his make up. Yeah its all "part of his/our journey" but ...

We tend to forget it because it seems like aeons ago, but we can't underestimate his pioneering in independent digital music distribution. Some lost $ 77.77 in the adventure, but still, at the time, it was revolutionary.
And the first websites were really something, technically speaking.

Yes, him embracing technology is to be considered. Im talking mainly music though. Even still, I feel he did more with technology in the 00's. I guess we traded techology for the music.

The battle with WB really got heated around Sign o the Times.

No, it got really heated in the 90's. Hence the infamous battle/slave era. SOTT may have been the beginnings but it was nothing like the 90's. C'mon.

Prince seemed to hold a resentment over the trimmings of Crystal Ball to Sign o the Times. I believe, though he may gone along with WB at time, more to this resentment that even carried over to the Slave era in 90s. As Prince said to me the fued really started with Sign.
What are you outraged about today? CNN has not told you yet?

Im not saying the fued didnt start with DF/SOTT. Im saying it got heated in the 90's. You said in the 80's.

Prince commanded so much with live performance I think he lost interest in charts and music that would be commercial. I don't believe one had to do with the other. Tech and music.

As Bart ponted out several times throughout the past two decades, Prince INDEED was concerned with the charts and where he stood within them. There's some major magazine interview where he plays a song for an interviewer and states "this is a hit, right?" or something akin to that. Thats just a silly example but there are other things that showed he wanted and cared about being on the charts again. Nothing wrong with that..but..but..that thinking is what made him or his music 'ordinary' to me than something altogether different as in his heyday. I got into his music because it wasnt like anything else.

How does it seem so? Did he publicly decry WB in 87? Did he write slave on his face then? Did he change his name then or was it in the 90's? Damn dude, are you trolling or what?

Prince talked about it at many of the npgmc soundchecks. Said the fued with WB started with CB and when WB started to tell him what to do with specific songs. That many believe it started with Slave on face and name change but it started way before. I always wonder if the pulling of the Black Album was more a less a fuck off from CB fued.

The only problem is GB is a soundtrack with many associates artists tracks. Whereas Lovesexy was a cohesive Prince album.

Some fans have suggested that maybe Prince should have released two separate albums: one album containing all the songs that he sings, and another album containing the associate artist's songs (they could have added Ingrid Chavez's "7 Corners" and Robin Power's "Number 1" to this album too).

Really? How many hit singles did Graffiti Bridge have? How many people were lining up in front of cinemas to see the movie? How many were lining up to see him play live? Ah, okay, don't bother... We all know the answer...
The movie is a different story, its not that bad. I ve watched few weeks ago and liked it. great to se a “normal” prince talk, dance and sing

Holy shit. It's one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

EMBARASSING. I mean, I liked Prince's look and some of the musical numbers from a music video standpoint but Hol-lee shit was that movie cringe inducing. Made UTCM look like Citizen Kane.

regarding the movie,I’ll just use a quote that I saw in a magazine’s review of it:

“To call ‘Graffiti Bridge’ a long-form music video is an insult to music
videos. The movie can barely muster the energy to get from one scene to the next”.

i would have preferred a Prince only album, add 2-3 extra tracks.

Lovesexy had a theme and distinctive sound but contains some very weak tracks; When 2 R in Love, Dance On, Glam Slam, Positivity and I Wish U Heaven. Half the album.

Lovesexy has no weak tracks... the tracks mentioned, these are weak?? hell noooo... eek

Wonderful, amazing, the Lovesexy album is a fresh sounding pop-funk Prince masterpeice, easy in my Prince-album top 5. Like PR-SOTT-Parade-1999.

the string of Prince masterpieces 1982 to 1988, that's so incredible.. Prince was the master of the 80s even M.Jackson couldn't keep up, and not even The Beatles could deliver so many outstanding albums in such a pace. (The Beatles were/ are brilliant as well, especially from Rubber Soul to Abbey Road)

Masterpiece:

1999
Purple Rain
ATWIAD
Parade
Sign O' The Times
Lovesexy

All these are so very different, still all are amazing and true brilliant, 6x 1980's - Prince-masterpieces. worship

Huge love from me to Lovesexy, the socalled negative critic is coming from americans (mostly), take another listening please, u will be rewarded... wink

I really looove the Lovesexy production - just amazing with all those layers, screaming guitars, wonderful from start to the end. love

Say what you will but I think Can't Stop is one of P's better songs. I damned sure like it better than the demo version. It's pretty intense!

That's Prince. Turn up the intensity to a trillion!

I already did a thread about how on the sneak tip Graffiti Bridge is a hit Prince album, though.

So, I'm turning my nose up at this thread.

Here's the deal:

Graffiti Bridge will always have this against it:

-

-The movie negatively influences/impacts thoughts and appreciations of the album.

It's my opinion, so not wrong.

Really not into Lovesexy at all, over-rated wouldn't be in my top 10 or 20 albums.

All Prince albums have filler / lesser songs with the possible exception of Purple Rain / Dirty Mind maybe a few others. Parade might also be included in the latter category too.

i simply don't think there is anything on lovesexy nearly as good as joy in repetition (maybe his best lyrics ever), the question of u. Lovesexy was a rushed project, how long did it take to make? a week? it shows, too much arrangement and too little song to hide the fact that there isn't much song. Good? yes, by normal standards, for Prince? Not up to his standards.
