Rave In2 The Joy Fantastic (Remix album)

So... I've never listened to this remix album, is it any good?

I know that prince did a lot of promotion for Rave Un2, not only that but it was also the year 1999 and he was also holding the "Rave In2 The Year 2000" T.V special, Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic isn't his greatest and most loved work but still a good album (In my opinion). That being said, is the remix album any good and worth me paying money for the CD?

You know all this other shit about promotion, holding this or that PPV, Rave Un2 isn't his most loved work (according to...?), and that the original a good album, yet you haven't ever, in 17 years or so, listened to the remix album?

I like the remix better for the most part. The remix seems to fit the vibe of the production style better. You could listen to it on the web before purchasing it.

It's easy to find for download. There are places, though not exactly legal.

I've never really thought of this as a remix album but I suppose it actaully is. I just saw it as an expanded version.

At the time is was very much Prince's version of the album he gave Arista. I'm sure with the deal with BMG he was able to then release his own version on NPG records so in effect still retaining some sort of control (which we all know he liked).

I remember at the time being at BMG and being involved in the New Power Soul project and then off the back of that it then seemed we went straight into the Rave project.

It was a dream come true to be involved in one Prince album project, but to be involved in two was just mindblowing!

Oh happy days!

lol lol

Prince did refer to it as a remix album on NPGMC.com:

FANTASTIC ALBUM. THIS CD CONTAINS XCLUSIVE REMIXES
OF "HOT WIT U", "RAVE IN2 THE JOY FANTASTIC", "BABY KNOWS"
AND MORE, PLUS THE BONUS TRACK, "BEAUTIFUL STRANGE."
THIS CD IS NOT AVAILABLE IN STORES

An episode of The Mountains and the Sea - A Prince Podcast was released on Sunday, June 24, 2018, and the focus was the entire Rave Un2 album, TGRES maxi single, "Providence" with Ani DiFranco and "Waiting Room" with No Doubt.

It's a podcast I host with my wife, and we touch on all songs on an album in each episode. If I may break my arm patting myself on the back, it's a great free way to hear information about the album and our opinion on every track.

You can subscribe in iTunes or wherever you get your pods, for free:

always kind of wondered why he didn't release the original sequence of this album
that he submitted to arista but which clive told him needed more commercial tracks
or something like that.

if that was his original vision for it, and he was blaming arista for the album going
belly up, it might have made more sense perhaps for him to release his version of
it the way he would have released it on his own -which he then actually did with a
remix version of the released album.

in other words: i want the rave outtakes lol

Originally it was rumoured to be a psychedelic rock album if my memory is serving me?

I'd be very interested to hear rhe original version as well as the Madrid 2 Chicaco album, which I understand was recorded during the same period (98-99) and initially included 'Man O' War'.

i agree. plus, i'd like to add that the title track remix is just stupid. the original is much better.

Artistically talking I obviously agree with you, but at the same time I always found strange the choice to include a near untouched 1989 song in an album composed and released 10 years later.

Musically it sounds different and somewhat "out of context" with the other material.

To some extent, I think the remixed Rave fits better in the project.

Both versions suffer from the inclusion of "Everyday Is A Winding Road," which I really do not enjoy at all.

Also always bugged me that it's "Everyday"…should be "Every Day Is A Winding Road." That was Sheryl's original title though, so not Prince's fault.

The Undisputed remix, Hot Wit U remix, Man O War remix, Beautiful Strange, and the following tracks with a bit of an extended instrumental ending make the album worthwhile for me:

Tangerine
Baby Knows
Prettyman

The Adam & Eve remix of TGRES on the maxi-single is superior to the remix of the song included on Rave In2.

Regarding the song on another note: I edited the Larry Graham "every day! Every day!" chant out of the song and it's so much better.

Worth it for Beautiful Strange alone (but only if you can't get it any other way).
