A tentative list, but I think my top top would feature at least the follow Prince albums:

Parade

Sign o the Times

The Rainbow Children

The rest of the list might feature:

Let It Bleed - The Rolling Stones

No More Shall We Part - Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds

The Hissing of Summer Lawns - Joni Mitchell

The Return of the Space Cowboy - Jamiroquai

Bone Machine - Tom Waits

Ten Love Songs - Susanne Sundfor

The Sensual World - Kate Bush (or) Grey Tickles, Black Pressure - John Grant

Prince albums would rate 7 out of my top ten, which 7 varies, but sign o the times, lovesexy and one night alone always feature. lol
Other artists include Miles Davis, Marvin Gaye,Donny Hathaway and Kirsty MacColl (and I know that adds up to 11, I’m a Prince fan and I’m greedy)

Possibly Sign O' The Times. In reality I couldn't do a Top 10. I have over 3,000 cds.

I'm having the same problem and my mood swings a LOT when it comes to music so my top ten always changes. Might make for a cool thread though. Except it'd get buried in "Music: NON PRINCE" so no one would read it.

I thought of ten more today and have no idea where to slot them

Goodbye Yellow Brick Road - Elton John
Meddle - Pink Floyd
Stand - Sly and the Family Stone
Fear of a Black Planet - Public Enemy
Truth and Soul - Fishbone
What's Goin On - Marvin Gaye
Ode to Billy Joe - Bobbie Gentry
Billion Dollar Babies - Alice Cooper
WAR - U2
Monsters and Robots - Buckethead

Man, I'm like you I could just keep going.

Based on this thread Parade is Prince's most highly regarded album. It's aged the best of all his records to my ears. Somehwere in my top 10 for sure.

Not for me. I like it a lot but really have to be in the mood for it. It's a clever and fully realized record and has a lot of depth to it, but I'd rate 1999, PR, SotT, AoA, Dirty Mind, Exodus and Gold above it. Again, I just go by "how much do I play it" as my rating factor.

I don't break out "Parade" too much. Sometimes in the spring. You ever have those records that seem to match certain SEASONS? Maybe I'm weird like that

I'll join the top 10 party. biggrin

1. Prince - 1999
2. Prince - Lovesexy
3. Janet Jackson - Rhythm Nation 1814
4. The Cure - Disintegration
5. Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)
6. Madonna - Like a Prayer
7. Annie - Anniemal
8. Björk - Vespertine
9. Madonna - Ray of Light
10. LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver

Controversy, The Gold Experience, and Sign o' the Times are also in my top 20.

I have all of those nod

Glad to see Annie get some love. Chewing Gum and Me Plus One are such perfect pop songs, you can't get catchier than those nod

It's funny you'd pick Sweet Dreams over Touch. Sweet Dreams is great, hell all Eurythmics albums are great, but Touch is THE Eurythmics record that blows my mind, it would definitely be among my all-time favorites. So would Vespertine (alongside Debut and Post).

It'd be interesting to make a Top 3 "favorite Madonna albums" thread. I think RoL would probably win, though my own darling is by far Music.

I love Touch a lot, too. It was 14 on my most recent list.

I also think Ray of Light would take the crown for a Madonna poll. Makes me tempted to run an all-time albums poll on thhe org.
Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

I have built an entire spring ritual around Parade, so...

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

First of all, who made you the authority on what’s tasteful and what’s not? Second, while Ed Sheeran’s subsequent albums have been subpar, his debut was excellent. Third, I feel as though you prejudge these artists without fully listening to the albums. Taylor gets a bad reputation, but RED is an amazing album that contains one of my favourite songs (All Too Well). Fourth, I’m 17, am I not allowed to like some of the music of my generation? I’m sure your elders chided you for also having no taste when you listened to pop contemporaries as opposed to what was popular in their day. Fifth, Adele is a queen and (like it or not) the most popular artist right now. Don’t diss. I might not like Michael Jackson, but I respect that he was a talented performer who was incredibly popular and that there are a lot of people who do like his music.

If you're 17 and you like Kate Bush, you're my friend. hug highfive Fuck what everybody else says!

Kate Bush AND Prince. Co-sign. And the kid's got a point. Maybe we can give teenagers a break nod

Thank you, and I know I got a bit over-defensive but it does annoy me when people diss my music tastes and I feel like some (not all) older people don’t give younger people enough credit.

While not wanting to turn this into a All Time Top 10, I just couldn't resist here:

Kiss - Lick It Up
Prince - Dirty Mind
Danielle Brisebois - Arrive All Over You
Paul Stanley - Paul Stanley
Kyle Vincent - Solitary Road
Icon - Night Of the Crime
The Temptations - For Lovers Only
Blue Murder - Blue Murder
Michael Stanley Band - You Can't Fight Fashion
Girl - Sheer Greed

tell me what's so good about the temptations album? I used to think of them as singles artists but then i got a four disk set and was blown away by the great stuff i'd never heard.

What I love about this Temptations album is that they take songs from the "Great American Songbook" and re-work them into "Quiet Storm" styled R&B. The main vocalists are Theo Peoples and Ali-Ollie Woodson and they sound amazing together. "I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face" and "Some Enchanted Evening" are both simply and hauntenling beautiful.

Are you talking about the "Emperors of Soul" boxed set? I have that and if it's possible to wear out a CD I certainly did with that one! smile

Holy shit, that's great. A KISS solo album in an all time top ten. I love KISS but i'd never go that far. You rock dude.

WE should start a separate thread for this. See how many prince albums make the cut,

I've got, off the top of my head, along with the Prince Albums...

Paul's Boutique - Beastie Boys
Physical Graffitti - Led Zep
Electric Warrior - T Rex
When The Pawn... - Fiona Apple
Axis Bold As Love - Hendrix
Blood Sugar Sex Magic - RHCP
Rage Against the Machine
Nothing's Shocking - Jane's Addiction
Let it Bleed - Rolling Stones
Original Musiquarium - Stevie Wonder

...man, this is hard. Way too hard...Impossible. TEN? My mood shifts too much.

Paul's album is the definition of the word "perfection". I know many Kiss fans get all wet over Ace's solo album but, while it's a good album, it doesn't feature Paul Stanley!

Apologies to anybody thinking I'm trying to derail the thread. That certainly isn't my intention here. biggrin

Not at all. I had just NEVER heard anyone mention ANY of the KISS solo albums as top ten anything. I like KISS and I like Paul Stanley. He's a fine vocalist and front man and his book was my favorite among the ones written by the band members. Maybe I'll give it another spin

Prince has a lot of amazing albums, but i don't think any of them have captivated me like LotusFlow3r/MPLSoUND. Phase 2 is a very close second, but his (solo) 2009 output is my all time favorite Prince album.

Parade lover here too. And 1999. Sometimes, Prince makes me think of other artists with albums I love, and vice versa. Love Madhouse covering Marvin's Got 2 Give It Up. Nona Gaye on vocals. : )
