Prince live album

One of the things i wish Prince did was put out a great live album. He had so many great live performances but imo they are all scattered over the place.

I hope his estate can put together a compilation of his best live performances into a video album of sorts, i would purchase it.

i know he did the sign concert- which is great- but it mostly includes sign songs, which are fantastic, but i would like more diverse material.

an

He did release quite a lot of live material - it was just visual and not in an album format.

Purple Rain Live
Did Parade Live get a release in Japan?
Sign O The Times Live
Lovesexy Live 1 and 2 (for me this is the live highlight because it's a complete performance of a single show)

Sacrifice of Victor aftershow
The Undertaker

Beautiful Strange
Rave Un2 the Year 2000
Live At the Aladdin

Sure, there are plenty of gaps in official releases that could use filling (Hi Prince Estate!! wave ) but that is a lot of material and some of it is still pretty great.

The actual live releases One Nite Alone box / It Ain't Over / Indigo Nights I don't listen to...might give them a spin this weekend because it's probably been a decade since I've listened to them -maybe they got better with time neutral

Parade Live (actually simply titled "Parade" like the album) wasn't ever released anywhere, but was broadcast in many countries. There were also 2 Nude Tour video and one Nude Tour radio broadcast, and of course the fabulous 1994 untitled radio tape. The Rock In Rio show was also broadcast in Latin America. Three other shows were also made available on the Wolfgang's Vault website, including the NY '98 show that was available for purchase at some point, making it an odd but nevertheless legal live release. And let's not forget the 2 "NPG" live albums, C-Note and The War!

.

But yeah, there were many live releases over the years. It just paled in comparison to the insane amount of bootlegs we had at our disposal: everyone had this or that show that they would have him release instead of what he would actually release: unless he'd release a live album a month on a website, there was no way in the world he could satisfy the fans' demands.

.

I personally was happy with what we got: if nothing else it gives an interesting interpretation of what, among all the recordings he made, Prince viewed as deserving to be part of his canon. His choice may have seemed odd or confusing at times, but instead of wondering whether they were the right ones, or the ones we wanted, or the ones that showed his live work in the best light, we should wonder why Prince would favor such specific recordings over every other at any given time, and why he chose to release this over that.

Small Club / Paard van Troje 1988 is the most essential comprehensive Prince live album. It should get a proper official remastered release - hope the original tape(s) is still somewhere...

I agree.

I REALLY, REALLY wish they would release that One Night Alone / It Ain't Over / The Aftershow video. The CD is incredible and there used to be a [really] rough video clip of Joy In Repetition from that aftershow on YouTube.
