Prince "Topic" Now On YouTube

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCPIZb3A7k6zLefVNtaAmvGg/videos

Haven't seen anyone post about this yet, basically means all the songs available for stream are now licensed by Warner to be on YouTube and there's some live albums up there too which aren't on streaming services.

Apologies if anyone had posted this earlier but I havent seen it mentioned

Actually, that is not what it means at all. That could not be further from the truth.

You may see general channels of trending and popular videos that are auto-generated by YouTube. Just like user channels, you can subscribe to these channels and stay updated on new videos.

On these channels, you'll see a notice in the "About" section that they've been auto-generated by YouTube and they'll have "topic" in their title name, such as Prince: Topic.

An auto-generated channel is created when we identify a topic to have a significant presence on the site. If a topic doesn't have an auto-generated channel, it may be because:

  • There are only a few videos on the topic.
  • There aren't many views for videos in this topic.
  • The videos in the topic don't meet YouTube's quality threshold.

YouTube algorithmically determines the central topics in a video and then uses that information to develop collections of videos for any topic of interest. These channels don't convey any editorial opinion on the part of YouTube.

Ah okay, I had no idea those were automatic I just saw that in the description it said "Provided to YouTube by Warner Music Group" and thought they'd made an effort to get the audio on YouTube for some reason, thanks for the info smile

When eye saw it eye was like, 'WHAT THE F-'. eye don't think they should have done this because prince didn't want his music on the internet because he wouldn't earn any money, But now Warner have decided 2 not care 4 his opinion and posted them because he is dead. WHAT THE F*CK? If Prince was alive he would have them taken off instantly.

Huh. If money is really the priority (even though Prince isn't here anymore so it doesn't really matter) then naturally, you want to reach as wide of an audience as possible to find potential buyers of albums/merch. In 2018, that requires the internet and streaming, no matter how much some of yall want to drag your feet. Also, bottom line, if Prince really felt that strongly about his music being online, he should have had a will to set it in stone.

Yeah, except no one did anything, as explained by TrivialPursuit.

Are we gonna have a 5 pages-long thread discussing a non-fact?

Prince was not worried about himself not making money so much as he was aware that others would make money. And if he was so worried he could have set up a legal trust or other structured systems as to what to do with his music and estate in general.

I just hope they someday make a guitar hero game with his music... (yes I know what he said about it and I think he was wrong)

Most topic channels, like the new Prince one, seems to contain to parts: an automated selection of pre-existing youtube videos. In this section you'll find random uploads by random people that contain Prince songs, covers, live tracks, whatever.

.

But the topic channel also contains new, official streaming "videos". In the case of the Prince channel it has tons of WB material available in this way. If you click on one, you'll see the message "Provided to YouTube by Warner Music Group".

.

Example: Clouds. https://www.youtube.com/w...cayd5Ni2PI

.

"Provided to YouTube by Warner Music Group"

.

Published June 8, 2018.
