I learned about sex & identified with a partcular autobiographical incident listening to this album as a pubescent kid.

"That mountain top situation is not really what it's all cracked up 2 B when eye was doing the Purple Rain tour eye had a lot of people who eye knew eye'll never c again @ the concerts.just screamin n places they thought they was suppose 2 scream."prince

I was 16 when I first heard the album. I also saw Uptown and Dirty Mind on MTV when they did their Prince marathon videos in the 90s. Some of my classmates were talking about the slang head and it was listening to the song Head that I got a better understanding of it.

But I am cool with a person listen to the song at age 13 but with some lecture about what it means.

I feel ages from 6 to 13 they should listen to the clean version imo.

And then he was taken aback when QuestLove told him that he was the person that taught him how to curse!

I imagine P may have had one of those moments like the anti-drug PSAs in the eighties where the dad walks in on the son who is rolling weed. The dad yells at him and says, "Where did you learn that?" and the kid says, "From you, dad. I learned it by watching you!"

I first brought the album when I was 12, I remember being more shocked at the album cover than the metiral on the album...

Hip hop/urban lyrics nowadays are far worse than anything that DM has to offer.

Sure, words are bleeped on the radio but the kids know exactly what they're saying.

I'm not encouraging you to play DM to a 6yo, but just saying that theyve probably heard worse already.

wink

You are SO RIGHT

Eveb Bey he Great sings lyrics that are More Dirty

BLOW

"Don't slip off when it drip off on top of you"

PARTITION

"Now my mascara running, red lipstick smudged/ Yeah, he's so horny he wants to f---/ He popped all my buttons and he ripped my blouse/ He Monica Lewinsky-ed all on my gown/ Oh Daddy, Daddy, he didn't bring the towel/ Oh baby, baby, we better slow it down"

I want to show my 10 year old son Dirty Mind, but a lot of the songs are about sex and making love.

Depends on what language you speak. I was 11 when I saw my very first music video - Alphabet St. I didn't speak English then, so I didn't understand a word (no, not even the letters helped lol ) but I loved the song, the cool colours and the "funny guy". For me, it was not too early for my Prince initiation. A whole new universe yes

I was about 17 when I first listened to Dirty Mind. I'd say you should at least be a teenager/in high school.

6 years old? You trying to raise a lowkey freak? I had heard songs like Little Red Corvette at that age and the innuendo went over my head, but if I had heard Head or Sister at that age I wouldv'e known!

I think 30 is probably the best age. That's why I'm putting off listening to it for a few more years.
