I would look at people's top ten list that they are making, but I would think you would need any of the Purple Rain releases.

Since they just remastered Purple Rain I would get that. I have been waiting a long time myself for a remastered Sign of the Times.

Go back to the beginning. For You. Then move forward.

Depends on which you liked best, based on your list, Id say Come and The Gold Experience.

I am trying to remember the order I got them in once I was able to buy them without an older brother ratting me out! I had a copy of PR and lost it and then someone left a tape with about 5 songs from ATWIAD in my parent's car (this was Spring 1985) So I bought PR and then ATWIAD... and then I think I got Dirty Mind and Contravacy on one tape? After that, I recorded Parade off the radio but that was at midnight they played the whole thing! Then I got 1999 in Mexico (fake copy) for $3! Then Prince and For You! Them with few exceptions I got them the day they came out...until NEWS... then not so much. I was just not that into the later stuff.

Sign O' the Times
Art Official Age

All are worthy of purchasing, but those two should give you an expanded perspective. Sign O'Times is one of the greatest albums ever made in my estimation and far superior to Purple Rain. Art Official Age is his final, cohesive and highly moving statement, the HitnRun series being more akin to compilations.

A new fan? Well...1999 was the first Prince album I ever bought and it hooked me for life, so...I'm gonna go with that one.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

1999, Purple Rain, Around the World In a Day, Parade and Sign O'the Times because they fill the gap between Dirty Mind/Controversy and Lovesexy and show you the artistic journey he made in those years- and it's mind-boggling journey that few other rock stars have made. Anything else should come after that.
I'd start with 1999 or Purple Rain, whichever one you can lay your hands on first and then move on to the other three.

It would seem that you don't own albums #1-4 on your own top 10 list:

http://prince.org/msg/7/455200

So I'd start at the top of your own list, right?

Then you already know what albums you like. Go back to the very start and work your way through the classic period albums.

I've only heard 'Wedding Feast' at my mother's sister's best friend's auntie's hamster's house. Not sure which song I should listen to next? ;-)

Not sure what pcowley's game is given the number of albums and songs listed on their own profile here. Just very ineffectively trolling and wasting time I guess.

Look at the forum page and all the threads he created. Def trolling.

A fairly strange, innocuous and slightly pitiful form of trolling if so. He lists Crystal Ball as being among his favourite albums. Perhaps we should just humour the poor soul? hug

You should get albums from between 2010 to 2016 next. Google is your friend for discography info.

When I want to convert Prince's fan, I try to school them on albums beyond Purple Rain and 1999. smile

I want to buy Art Official Age and the Gold Experience.

Also, I need the Chocolate Invasion as I love "When I lay My Hands on You".

Does anyone know where I can find a good quality vinyl of The Chocolate Invasion??

Irrelevant to my point - you have your own list of top 10 albums, so why don’t you start at #1 on your own list, which is filled with albums you don’t own?

It really doesnt make any difference...

Every one of his Albums will give you a different Experience

SInce you already have an appreciation for Prince

Why not start at the Beginning

FOR U (as someone else suggested )

and work you way through in Chronological order..

Or work Backwards

EIther way it wont matter...once you LOVE princes music

you want to hear everything anyway...

and since there is a LOT youd better carry on..smile
