Do you wear Prince clothing in public?

I've got many Prince t-shirts from concerts I attended; I wore out my Emancipation JOTY shirt years ago. The one that's probably most noticed is my orignal Purple Rain Black and White Dove shirt from the St. Paul shows. I wear it so often it's getting lighter each time; I also cut off the sleeves.

Yesterday the guy working at Target said "cool shirt;" and at that same Target a different time the girl working there remarked on the shirt and then showed me her Prince symbol tattoo in a non-suitable-for-Target-kind-of-place.

How about y'all?

Do you wear your Prince gear out and about?

No because I don't have any Prince apparel yet. lol But I would when I get some clothing. Prince is well-loved here in my conservative city and his apparel would be acceptable but some other outrageous clothes could raise some eyeballs.

At a music festival last year, on a couple of occasions people passing complimented my 25 year old Diamonds & Pearls tour t-shirt (which still fits!). Wear old tour t-shirts quite regularly, though most are in the loft in boxes as they are too garish to wear.

I have a few T-shirts that are in rotation, all black. I try not to wear them all the time. Nothing with his image on it.

- Starfish & Coffee shirt from Susannah Melvoin's site

- First Avenue logo

- Purple Rain text (from Target, no picture - just the title)

mmmh you made me retrace some things in my memory:

The Prince Tour t-shirts

Different sized Buttons sewn on the side of the pants (and colbert) - also worn at the 88 Dortmund gig

A white shirt with the purple rain New Romantic–style ruffled piece

Backplate Purple Rain for denim jacket

A longstyle coat like America vid from sheila E

Parade era UTMC leather style jacket.

Fisherman hat

....

Maybe Udo was the one who saw these thing as they happened smile

No. I sometimes Prince inspired clothing - like paisley or polka dots, or the "Revolution" jacket I made myself. But stuff with a Prince logo or motif? No.

I do have a couple of Prince tees (like my LotusFlow3r tee and my Electric Fetus "Wrecka Stow Day" tee), but I never wear them. I consider those collectibles, not clothing.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Well, back in the day when I went to the Purple Rain tour, I wore a long tweed trench coat and lace gloves with the fingers cut off. Nowadays I just get by with wearing the 4 or 5 t-shirts. I still have the original black Purple Rain t-shirt I bought at the concert but it is w-a-a-a-a-y too small for me now! I have a Musicology tour t-shirt, one from the Lovesexy tour and one from the era when he wore the yellow 'butt out' pants with the finger curls in his hair.

You should've seen the shit I weared at the SOTT concert.
Man, I had a superb white lace with open fingertips and a huge jabot on the wrist,
the exact same model Prince wears in the pic below (on his left hand).

The shit was much too expensive (they were damn beautiful), so I stole.
From the Galeries Lafayette counters. Tourists money right back in my parisian pocket, one could say. The Royal Tax.
$89 dollars in the back (nineteen eighty-seven 89 dollars! Not a pair, a SINGLE glove!
Fuck'em, four months of allowance? Dude, the concert's in a month and I got nothin' to wear!).

I know, the Revolution look for SOTT, totally anachronic, but this was my first Prince concert,
I still wore a peach and black outfit, but I had to have some nineteen eighty-four reminder,
as I wasn't in the States when the rain came down, and so the lace jabot glove. Like a birthmark.
Not to mention it really was the only accessory that screamed so distinctively "Prince!" in the whole women counter.

Anyway, can you imagine a grown-up man wearing this shit?
And it's just the glove. I mean only Prince could wear all the rest and look so bitchin'.

I got kicked out of my then girlfriend's (future wife and mother of my first two kids, SKipper makin' babies) father house at fifteen when he saw the guy his daughter was dating wearing this glowing white ostentatiously expensive reminder of the feminine side.

I mean kicked down the stairs, out of the house.
Epic.

So beware, as evidently it depends on which public.

Concert T-shirts for me, and, once-upon-a-time, Polka-dot shorts to commemorate the Lovesexy costumes.

I'd love to see that UTCM jacket--I always thought that was cool and wonder if I could pull off that look. Also, BTW, it'd be wild to see people dress in the way that artist Steve Park would style his figures' outfits.

peace

Sure. Mostly t-shirts but I've got other stuff I wear to Prince-related events.

But I wear my prince pendant every day.

I used to when I was young but at some point it occurred to me that it was odd wearing t-shirts with... someone else's face on them!
I would buy and wear Prince themed clothes though. I used to have this "I like funky music / I love sex" white t-shirt from 1998, I wore it to death and once worn off i even bought it again online (but that second purchase was not the right size so I couldn't wear it). I wish I still had it.

I made myself a T-shirt for the Lovesexy concert.
The end result was similar to this:

prince-lovesexy-vintage-concert-t-shirt-xl_1_488a143df688853fcdae703aabc5fe18.jpg

I think they sold a model like this one at the concert,
but hey, the handmade stuff you know, it's like a ritual.
I bought a cheap generic white one and a pair of pink fluorescent Stabilo Boss®.

I customized a pale blue jean jacket, à la SOTT. I painted over it, on acryllic,
and since there as no prrotective film I had to repair the paint cracks from time to time.
It was so fucking cool, I had it for years then I lost it, or maybe it was too worn off.

I'm pissed I don't have a single picture of me wearing it. It was kind of odd, because in reality
it was the perfect Marlboro Country winter jacket, with white plush inside that almost
looked like a seventies expensive carpet, a real cowboy's jacket,
but the outside was perfect, washed out exactly like Prince's denim jacket.

And I figured "hey, it's Minnesotan harsh winters style, and after all,
judging by the SOTT Tour Book cover, I've apparently joined the club of guys
wearing stuff that looks like seventies expensive rugs."

I've never been for photo portraits, "it's so vain" (said the Prince fan and the megalomaniac avatar), and now I blame myself.
In truth we were few to dress like that at sixteen years old, the Cure fans maybe, but they had it easy. Black is not that hard to find.

My handmade painted jacket had a giant bright magenta pink heart-shaped yes on the heart (doh!), a bright yellow golden cross below with carved gems on the tips (some for the french royal touch I guess), and on the right side, the three SOTT symbols in white, with a light black shadow : the peace sign, the cross, the heart,
one below the other to make the symbol, and they were perfect replicas
of every single brush stroke of Laura LiPuma's work.

Man I spent hours working on this shit. I almost forgot about it.
The back had the descending "LOVESEXY" logo.

You just made me remember: I walked the streets and subways of Paris wearing Prince like a flag for 2 whole years.
I made myself a batman T-shirt before any merch was available in Europe (in black and fluorescent yellow, man: you could spot me from across the street).
I've been a sandwich man, SKipper owes me.

If some like me were a daily ad for Prince, no wonder we had second thoughts about illegal downloading.
After buying every album, single, protegés maxi-single, and even wearing Prince on our sleeve (litterally: my jean jacket had the arrow-shaped "NEWPOWERSOUL" on one), the unreleased gems felt like "thank you"’s on Maxell XLII CrO².
We were funk soldiers before it became a song line.

You shoulda seen the outfit on some Parisian Ladies coming to the concert.
I mean fuck me, "right there on the floor, don't matter no more — I'm hot!" kind of attire.
But sexy, you know? Feminine with an elegance, in all shapes and colors.
So much sex, so little sexism in Prince's world.
