Prince's covers of other artists - 2003 list update

If you are aware of any other artists' song(s) that Prince had covered SINCE 2003, either in concert or studio (including outtakes), please post them below, along with any other additional info (date, venue, etc) that you may have.

We already have this list: http://prince.org/msg/7/67698 and AFAIK, there hasn't been a comprehensive thread about the topic since then (although I am sure someone will soon let me know if they find one wink ).

Personally, I would like to mention the cover he did of the Waterboys song, 'The Whole Of The Moon', performed at the Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club in London during the 2014 HitNRun tour and again at Paisley Park during the Dance Rally 4 Peace in May 2015. I never got to hear the first performance and I am not sure if there is an available recording of it, but I heard the second and boy, that bass... cool

This is the new list of covers post-2003 (to be updated as and when*):

All Along The Watchtower (Bob Dylan) (Medley with Best Of You)
All Shook Up (Elvis Presley)

Baby Love (Mother's Finest)

Best Of You (Foo Fighters) (Medley with All Along The Watchtower)
Come Together (The Beatles)

Crimson and Clover - Tommy James and the Shondells (Lotusflow3r)

Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough (Michael Jackson)
Down By The Riverside (traditional spiritual - 1760-1770)

Footprints (Wayne Shorter)

Heroes (David Bowie)

It's Ecstasy When You Lay Down Next To Me (Barry White)

Johnny B. Goode (Chuck Berry)

Let's Go (The Cars)

Live It Up (The Isley Brothers)

Love Is A Losing Game (Amy Winehouse)

Nine Million Bicycles (Katie Melua)

Play That Funky Music (Wild Cherry)

Stratus (Billy Cobham)

The Long and Winding Road (The Beatles)

The Whole of the Moon (The Waterboys)

Unchain My Heart (Ray Charles)

What A Wonderful World (Louis Armstrong)

With A Little Help From My Friends (The Beatles)

*In bold: titles he performed live only;

(the others are the studio recorded titles he officially included on an album)

****EDIT*****

Thanks to all that have started contributing to this thread. As Rioub said, there are already two categories (Live + Studio) for covers on Princevault, so the task I had set out to do will not be necessary after all.

But please feel free to post in relation to this topic if you wish to do so!

Prince covered The Whole Of The Moon??!! Wow!

I guess that makes sense, though..

Regarding the song:

“...instead suggests that its subject is a number of people who inspired Scott, including writer C. S. Lewis and the musician Prince...”

I have heard it. Unfortunately,, it seems to have been taken down. Prince is paying the bass I believe. It was really quite good. He kind of makes it about race a little bit as well--implying that black people were often underestimated. Some people didn't like that Prince sang "I" instead of "U" but with the race angle, it quite works.

I got a bit excited when I originally read that too, but apparently Scott and the band later denied this and said it was just that some aspect of Prince's music had inspired the song... During another interview with Uncut (2013), in which The Waterboys explain the making of TWOTM, Prince's name occurs no less than 11 times, which says more than enough to me... cool

'[...]Scott later defines “Big Music” as “A metaphor for seeing God’s vision in the world.” And the song that brought it to the wider British public is one of the most striking of the Waterboys’ career. “The Whole Of The Moon” is a synth-heavy sonic tribute to Prince, its guitars largely buried deep in the mix. Bowie, The Beatles and crashing brass fanfares are there too, matching Scott’s lyric about reaching “too far, too high”[...].' http://www.uncut.co.uk/fe...moon-23109

According to Princevault, Prince played 'Unchain My heart' twice: the first time in 1988 at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, NY, and the last time on 28 February 2016 at the Paramount Theatre in Oakland...
