Funny though, Prince didn't seem to like the concept birthdays or the celebration of it.

As he said to a crowd: "How many birthdays have you had?..... ONE!"

And: "Counting years makes you old" or something like that.

[Edited 6/7/18 3:57am]

I can't be sure, but I think that came later in his life. If you go check out today's entry on PrinceVault.com, you'll see that he did a fair amount of standalone performances in the 80s on his birthday, and that the setlists on some included a "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" intermission! biggrin

Celebrate Prince’s 60th Birthday With 60 Essential Songs On “Purple Current”

BY KEVITO 1 MIN AGO

Family Affair Will Share Rare Photos Of The Purple One At “Prince Pre-Fame” Exhibit In San Francisco

The Current will celebrate Prince’s 60th birthday with the artist’s 60 essential songs. Streamed for 24-hours, “Purple Current” will run all day in his honor.

Happy Birthday, Prince Rogers Nelson!

.

The Artist would have been 60-years-old today and everyone who ever witnessed him grace this musical universe is donning purple and paisley in his honor. The Current, 89.3 FM out of Minnesota, will air Prince’s “60 Essential Songs” from noon until 5:30 p.m. CT today. But don’t worry if you’re on the run and can’t hear it live because the show will run on a 24-hour stream for any dedicated Princeologist to tune into and enjoy.

,

With “Mary Don’t You Weep” already sounding like heaven on earth, Prince will be on the minds and hearts of any true audio adventurer. The final 20 minutes of Purple Current will have an exclusive performance of “Crazy2Cool” medley Prince gave in 2014 to the station. The show will span the artist’s full career and will cover his full range of sounds and excerpts of Prince himself discussing his music and life.

Fueled by the sounds of nine different DJs, “Purple Current” will include some of the Purple One’s bandmates and friends like Lisa Coleman, Dr. Fink of the Revolution, Har Mar, PaviElle, and Alicia Keys. “We’ve always tried to honor the music and legacy of Prince,” said Jim McGuinn, Program Director of The Current.

,

“We’ve always tried to honor the music and legacy of Prince. This is the journey through his entire musical career, augmented by his own words with anecdotes from his bandmates and context from our Purple host. It’s our way of celebrating Prince’s birthday and the legacy he has left.”

Listeners can tune in to The Current, 89.3 FM, to listen today, and “Purple Current” can be accessed on purplecurrent.org and on both the MPR and The Current apps.
