Did Prince have opening acts for his shows?

With his shows, I mean from stadium concerts to his Paisley Park stints to smaller, more intimate shows like "Piano & A Microphone".

I've never been to a Prince show sadly, so I don't know if Prince had opening acts from the late 1970s to 2016?

Not a real opening act but he did screen Akira on the big screens in the afternoon after the soundcheck in 1989 in Japan and some lucky few who were in there saw that and reported on it.
I don't know if he himself did it or the people of the venue tho.

He had many opening acts, most (if not all) of which are included in the concert listings on princevault.

Often they were artists he was recording or collaborating with at the time.

Sometimes he would even appear on stage to play, or jam for a bit, with his own opening act!

As others have said, sometimes he had them and sometimes he didn't - and they were often affiliated with him in some way.

For example, opening acts I've seen at his shows over the years include Mavis Staples, Carmen Electra, Shakespeare's Sister, TTF, 4 Non Blondes, the NPG, Doug E Fresh, Chaka Khan, Larry Graham and Nikka Costa.

Sorry but it seems like a legitimate and at the same time an informative question.

I meant, opening acts that Prince had not collaborated with. Local acts that were self-promoting.

Seriously if you had your way there would be 3 new threads a year. Can we just reorganise your responses into

1) For crying out loud! Why don't you know as much about Prince as I do despite me not liking Prince at all.

2) Go on Princevault and stop discussing things on a discussion forum.

3) I don't like anything.

I absolutely promise you that your world will lighten without this relentless negativity. ☺

Some good ones there.

I can think of 3 that are not in that thread:

There were probably many obscure local acts that were obviously chosen by the local tour promoters, not P's organization. I remember Paris 1992 was Swedish singer Indra (poor thing was boooed, but she had it coming opening for Prince with the kind of stuff she was doing: https://www.youtube.com/w...KkaJHCq0), and in 1993 the French band named by David1974 in that old thread was actually called No (it took me a while to find their one and only hit again but here you go: https://www.youtube.com/w...NYh_1aI8).

Mint Condition also opened (before Larry Graham and GCS) in Arras 2010.

The 1998 tour with Larry and Chaka was some serious funkin'.

In Paris the whole affair lasted more than 5 hours!

That's awesome! I'm an Akira fan! I wonder if P was into anime like me. That would be cool. They're making a live-action version for the movies, supposedly.
