He's an idiot. Lol. He failed to realize Prince was already the smoke.

Never heard of him. Nor have I ever smoked but I cannot in any possible way imagine that having a cigarette is better than jamming with Prince.

Lead singer for the British band Blur. This was probably their most famous song (I never liked it personally):

Thanks. Never heard of him or Blur but I sure HAVE heard that song on lots of commercials! First time I've ever listened to the whole song. The hook is really good. I'll check these guys out.

But first I want to buy some Intel chips, a Nissan Sentra and a BMW while playing the FIFA video game, LOL.

Aside from Blur, a wonderful band relegated to "one hit wonder" and the sound "woo hoo" (I suggest the dreamy William Orbit produced "13"). Damon Albarn is also a key player in Gorillaz, whos collaboration with De La Soul was a Grammy winner and performed at 2006 with Madonna, De La, and the cartoon band. I appreciate his ability to create unconventional sounds from established acts.

.

Damon Albarn also produced Bobby Womack's final album The Bravest Man in The Universe.

.

He is a talented fella, I can only dream of what kind of fantastic stuff he and P could have created together.

But the situation is about the person, isn't it? I don't know what point you're trying to make.

I don't know this guy from Adam. He's just some random dude who values smoking over working with Prince. Okay. Whatever.

yello1 never said you should care. But you cared enough to post on the thread, so tell us why you cared enough to take time out of your busy day to make a snarky comment.

THIS! You have the chance to make music with Prince and smoking a cigarette is more important to you? lol

He'd rather smoker than make noise with Prince? His second mistake was admitting that.

No reason at all.

Aged 12 though blur were my favourite group in the world, a million times more exciting than that soppy Prince fella singing about the Most Beautiful Girl in the World and changing his name.

Damon Albarn is a major talent, up there with the very best.

Should you care though? Not in the slightest.

The actual long answer is much more respectful and interesting than the clickbait.

He was already frustrated that Prince had a "no smoking in studio" rule and instead putting himself in a bad situation with somebody he likes, he opted out.

Damon was right. Imagine the personality clash that would've happened with them being stuck in the studio together for 8+ hours working on something with Damon on edge and Prince making snide comments every time he tried to sneak out for a break.

No judgement on Albarn, but I'd have bit my tongue and done it regardless. It's a shame, a collaboration between the two would have been really interesting.

i would have just stuck 17 nicotine patches on my arms legs and back and been like 'let's do this! guitar ' lol

then you could still go out for 1 cigarette once there was a lull in the recording or prince was on
the phone to one of his girlfriends at the time lol

albarn is a very talented guy though. writing and producing for others and in several bands at the

same time (blur, gorillaz, the good the bad & the queen, rocket juice and the moon) as well as
composing film scores and releasing solo material, plus guesting on other people's songs.

you can see why prince took an interest, probably.

i've always sort of liked him because when he writes a good song, it's really really good. but the
majority of his stuff, i can happily live without. no idea what to even begin to imagine a colab of
him and prince would have been like. seriously, no idea.

I forgot about Rocket Juice & The Moon! This group features Flea and Tony Allen, their album had one of the most bizarre Erykah Badu tracks I've ever heard "Hey Shooter" also featuring Thundercat. I wonder if the P collaboration was meant for this project.

I'm surprised more of you aren't familiar with Blur, given that it was their drummer Dave Rowntree that mocked Princes 'Slave' phase at the '95 Brit Awards by writing "Dave" on his face.

Clearly Prince didn't hold a grudge and recognised Damon's talent. Could have been an interesting collaboration.

I guess they just never made it big in America. That "Dave" joke is good English humour. biggrin

Always make me laugh when people use their narcissistic ignorance of a certain person, or thing, to belittle them/ it. How does the fact that you, RodeoSchro, not knowing of Damon Albarn possibly have any influence over this subject? It's completely arbitrary. All we know from what you've said is that you've never heard of him. Ok, fine. But why should anyone care? Please. Stop wasting our time.

Damon is bloody amazing. One of the world's most talented songwriters to come out of the nineties.

His social commentary is great, particularly on songs like "Me, White Noise" and "The Universal", but Blur (and Gorillaz) have a lot of good stuff.

I'm still laughing at one of their recent videos for "Lonesome Street":

Loving Damon, his work with Blur, Gorillaz & solo record, too - but smoking inside the studio?? That’s a safe way to cause trouble with the electronic gear over time.
