MLPS & Lotus question...

Do u consider Lotus and MLPS 2 different albums. I tend 2 listen 2 them 2gether as 1 big album. MLPS doesnt really seem like a complete album it seems more like some vault tracks combined on 4 a disc IMO ( like Crystal Ball)

Lotusflower is one album. (a fantastic one, start to finish, definite late career highlight for me)

MPLSound is one album. (a couple of tracks i enjoy very much, and some lesser material)

Lotusflower feels like (and by accounts is) an album he spent a couple of years on, selecting
song for it and playing with the tracklist a bit.

MPLSound feels like a project that happened rather quickly and possibly went through a few
changes at the last minute which made it less than it could have been. didn't john blackwell
at the time state that it was going to be "Controversy Pt 2"? it was hardly that once it was
released. but irrc people in the know have mentioned that it had a different tracklist to the
one that ended up being released. (anyway, 'here', 'dance 4 me' and 'old skool company',
and also 'no more candy 4 u' all make this an album i still play semi regularly).

Yup, Lotusflower feels and sounds as if it was a well-thought-out project from beginning to end, unlike MPLS.

Of course, they're different albums. Why would they have different names otherwise?

For me, their sound and conception are so different that I have NEVER played them back to back. Honestly, MLPS hasn't gotten nearly as many listens by me as most of his other albums whereas Lotus has.

They sound very different to me, and I've never tried listening to them back-to-back. I think Lotusflow3r is one of his best albums, and whilst MPLS lags behind, it's definitely grown on me. Could do without Chocolate Box though.

That said, in reality my main complaint about those two albums is that Lotusflow3r, instead of ending on Dreamer and going out with a bang, drags on another few minutes with the dull and forgettable Back 2 the Lotus. It's a bit like the dialogue at the end of ATWIAD - I get that it's part of the 'concept', but it doesn't add anything to the listening experience (for me, anyway).
