So because you're interested in the Hohner MadCat, you prefer to have the title of the thread say "Fender Telecaster" instead. Okay... smile
.

No, the OP said "The one he played throughout his career.". So was mistaken in naming the Fender tele in the thread description.

Not that - there very obviously were several replicas made, that's on the record from the PP guitar book too.

I was just referring to your statements (a) about P buying a 90s HS Anderson for parts (as far as I know the brand was defunct at that point in time) and (b) P owning two original Madcat guitars, one from 79 and one from early 80s. I do not believe there is evidence for either. More likely that the one without branding on the headstock was a luthier-made replica, but that's conjecture on my part.

.

No, there weren't any replicas made, that's my point. That's what I've been saying all along, but you don't seem to listen.. smile

.

As I said before, not everything communicated by Paisley Park (or in fact, Prince) is true. There weren't any replicas with Hohner logo. (And Prince didn't buy his Hohner for $30, as I've argued this many times before on the org and on facebook too, that guitar must've been AT LEAST $400 in 1979, but of course some people will still chose to believe the silly tales.)

.

The story about Prince buying a second hand HS Anderson MadCat (either in the late '90s or in the '00s) is true, the guy who's been contacted by Prince's guitar tech about it and sold it to them posted the story online back then. Google it if you want, I can't be bothered. (And again, I did say that it was second hand, so no point in telling me that the brand was defunct by then.)
.

Prince's two MadCats that were bought in late '79 and early '80 were photographed together a couple of times, again, google is your friend.
.
Show me just one photo of what you think is a replica... You can't because there weren't any replicas.
.
You just chose to believe anything Paisley Park says while they evidently can't even tell the difference between Prince's original Hohner and that Korean-made "TE Prinz" that he never played, since they are featuring the later on the My Name Is Prince exhibition, claiming that it was Prince's favourite guitar that he played throughout his career...
.

[Edited 5/9/18 0:43am]

This is all conjecture on your part, backed up by very little other than hot air.

I know the book was full of mistakes, that doesn't mean everything is a mistake. You are slightly misrepresenting what they said about the TE-Prinz too, by the way.

Here's a link to the company making re-issues. The headstock is slightly different due to a previous lawsuit from Fender, but otherwise these are very close to what Prince has (much closer than any previous TE Prinz replica).

To be honest, TE Prinz is not a bad instrument at all, I love mine. (I've made a few modifications to it.) In my opinion it is better and has a more unique sound than average Fender Teles.

.

BUT. It just doesn't compare to the real MadCat, especially to the limited edition (of 25) that I've already ordered. As soon as it arrives, I'll be selling my TE Prinz. I can hardly wait.

Hence my suggestion to correct the title...

Pretty cool, congrats! I find the sycamore top of the limited one a bit too "stripey" for my tastes but it looks more like the TE Prinz finish in that respect. Looks like a great guitar though. I also have a TE Prinz and a vintage re-issue Madcat arriving soon so we're in the same club smile

I'm not misrepresenting anything what they say about the TE Prinz. I've seen the exhibition and I've read what they wrote about that guitar next to it. I've also seen the video of the exhibition's curator holding the TE Prinz in her hands and claiming that was the guitar Prince played throughout his career. I've also spoken to Paisley Park about it and they have admitted their mistake.
.
I have never said that everything in their book is a mistake, that is something you're now attempting to attribute to me.
.
I won't repeat myself. I know what I'm talking about and of course you're free to either believe me or to believe that "Prince had replicas of his Hohner made and often played any of these replicas throughout his life." What I'm talking about can actually be backed up by evidence and if you don't believe me, I don't think I should be bothered to post the photos that have been posted before several times, even on the org. The theory of replicas, however, is something that have not been backed up by a single photo yet.

I actually prefer the slightly stripey look of the ltd. ed., I think it's closer to what Prince's MadCat looks like too. And the celluloid jack-plate, the corrected bridge pickup-position and its scratchplate are all things that made me go for the limited one.
But the vintage reissue version is also an absolutely stunning instrument so congrats to you too! smile

Admins, I'd suggest changing the title of this thread to "Last photograph with the Hohner" (or more precisely: the "Hohner-branded MadCat") as that's what the real subject is.
.

(I think the last time Prince played a Fender Tele on tour was 1979.)

I don’t think it’s ok to change the title since I too wanted to know when was the last time Prince played the Hohner.

.

Minor detail
We know what they meant, I guess you could change that part.

I agree about the sycamore topped version. But it’s supposed to be left over wood from the eighties so that’s cool. I got my 2017 MadCat reissue #17 of 30 from Mesa Boogie earlier this year in Feb. Absolutely gorgeous guitar and so well made. I can’t find a flaw Anywhere on the guitar, and it was perfectly setup right out the box. Welcome to the club.

You certainly know your stuff when it comes to Prince’s guitars. Like I said before, someone needs to ask Dez or Andre. I’m sure those guys know the real story about the Hohner. Please post pics of your MadCat when it comes in. I would love to see it. It seems to take forever, I know mine took over 6 months to get after ordering.
