I don’t get the choice of Manic Monday. Nothing wrong with the song but doesn’t seem suited to a singing competition.

It’s a fair point. I thought Catie’s performance was nice but I agree that it didn’t help her in the competition. HCUDCM...great song to use during in a competition if the singer has the range for it. The young lady (her name escapes me) who sang HCUDCM did a great performance of it...nowhere close to as good as Prince want it, but she executed it very well and hit all of the notes.

There are plenty of other ways to promote Prince's music.

I scanned the show just to hear the Prince tunes. My assessment on first listen (there will be no second!)

Five star rating

***** Excellent

**** Really good

*** Wasn’t bad, wasn’t great

** slightly below average, had problems

* horrible

Kiss - cool arrangement, her voice is nice; outfit was hot (Vanity would have slayed a MFer for those purple knee-high boots) * * * (she was eliminated)

I Would Die 4 U - boy, stop. really bad, I was almost embarrassed for him. *

Nothing Compares 2 U - felt disjointed, she has a good voice but it wasn’t cohesive * *

Jungle Love - I didn’t mind the rock edge to it, dude’s got a good voice; hate that they didn’t give Jesse credit as writer * * *

How Come U Don’t Call Me Anymore - overdone from the first line, it was like Janis Joplin trying to sing it in a bad way *

Manic Monday - she’s probably a hoot at a party, she forgot some lyrics, but she recovered; fun arrangement but she needs to temper her voice just a tad; I like her personal style & quirkiness * * * (she was eliminated)

When Doves Cry - nope, I hate his over-country-ized voice, the drama of the arrangement, just no. *

The guy Cade, who did “Jungle Love”, looks a bit like Tommy Barbarella

He really does look like Tommy!

WHAT?????? If you didn't even listen/watch, then your opinion on this is completely invalid. Just stop clover. I am really surprised at you.

.

Other people said they didn't watch it either, so why are you giving me such a hard time about it? You even said you don't like these types of shows! lol

.

Okay -- if you want to know why I didn't watch it.......

.

I didn't watch it because I'm not going to support/promote a show that I don't like. See, most of America watch these shows and think they are great. Most Amercans don't really know talent when they see or hear it (not any of you), but the majority of Amercans like to be spoon-fed information and don't bother doing any research. Just like radio -- there is plenty of good talent that is never heard. Why do I have to listen to some crap song 50 times a day?! See my point?

.

I'm not going to support shows like these, nor will I support the tributes. This does not mean I don't love Prince or don't care about his legacy.

.

Did AI ever ask for Prince's approval to do a show like this when he was alive and well??

Lol, it definitely means you don't support the legacy, wtf are you thinking? This is the venue that the estate chose to put him out there and you didn't watch and are talking crap about it. How the hell else can this be seen?

And not that it matters but I don't care what you think about it but it seems like there's some double-speak going on here and I needed to point that out.

Disagree lol

Did you finally watch it?

Do you think those kids really interpreted the Prince songs they sang, with the way they sang them? NO, they had no clue who they were singing. They didn't do their homework, if they did the gal that sang Nothing Compares to U, wouldn't have sang 'it's been 7 hours and 15 days.' Prince wrote that song as 13 days. She used Sineads lyrics not Prince's. She studied Sinead, NOT Prince.

Well, no one will know until they try it. And they really need to move forward with this. If younger people don't know P's music, they may also not know what his version sounds like, so they may have liked what they heard. And I have to say that there's been positive stuff said out there, by fans too smile

I'm sure that the estate would love to hear people's ideas on how to come up with money to keep things going. If you have any, consider letting them know smile

.

You don't need to watch stupid American Idol to know about Prince's music. The music should be passed down from the parents to the younger generation; that's how you learn about good music.

Yeah, but it isn't always like that. It is still that generations don't hear their parents generation music until they are older. My parents were not fans of Prince, and not fans of most of the 80s music I listened to. I mean they might have been fans of certain people who were still popular from the 60s and 70s, they didn't follow Prince, Michael Jackson etc So I learned Prince from peeprs.
