Whoever mentioned 'time capsule' was right. It's like PP and the The Vault was srtuck in the 90s. It really looks like the Gangster Glam video. Chome fittings, VHS cassettes, v old computers with CRT screens, etc. Takes me back...

If that's what P wanted, then cool. It just feels a bit odd.

I don't think he had the time to think about interior design (obvs), but there's something a bit sad (maybe not the right word) about him being 'stuck' in a time, or an era. It can't have helped as he watched the rest of the world change so much and seem so, so far away from his day-to-day existence in PP.

Anyway back on topic. I hope there a many beta tapes hiding under all those old unreliable VHS cassettes. It's a far, far better source of high quality footage than what collectors are used to working with...

I was surprised when I saw these things too. Computers, phones, video equipment were all really dated. But it’s not the first time I’ve seen a millionaire with old outdated stuff. I guess they get used to something and the way it works and just stick with it till you can’t anymore. I saw in other pics he still had media readers that connect to a computer via usb. That’s pretty new compared to the older computer equipment he had. Imagine if he had a iPad and iPhone. It’s funny how us poor folk have to have the latest shit that’s out. Lol

In the pics from the 21st, there was an ipad on the main desk in the yellow office. This seemed to be his working office. There was also lots of cash and CDs and dvds. In the pictures a couple of days later, when the police went in with a warrant, these things are missing from any of the evidence photos.

Seem to be one or two names here that aren't in the song list on PrinceVault.com... Could some of you experts weigh in?

This is one of the hundreds of police pics taken on 10 May 2016.

I saw that pic the other day.

I think its a set list.

Got to Give it up is a Marvin Gaye Song, and Green Garden is a Laura Mvula song; someone who joined him on stage on a few occasions.

Everything can be downloaded at the following link.

I recommend downloading the zip files separately.

Zip file #2 has hundreds of photos from 21 April, 2016. Go to folder "Item #51", then into folder "16-0709 working copies."

Be aware, the first 32 photos in the folder named "...469-SLB" include the infamous death scene photos.

Folder "...459-SMM" has the video vault pics. They are 290-325 and 587-596.

Zip file #4 has hundreds of pics taken on 10 and 11 May, 2016.

Zip file #5 has the music vault pics. They're in the folder named "Item #139 - photos of Prince's Vault." These appear to have been taken the day the vault was opened.

And may I take a moment to vent about the vault photos. Many of them are badly out of foucs. I could take better pics with my point-and-shoot, for cryin' out loud. rolleyes

The .odt file extensions on each name made me think it was a small excerpt from a large song list. Plus, its in alphabetical order.

Each item on this list is a text file, but what do the files contain? hmmm

Could this have something to do with the system that displayed song lyrics on the screens he would have around the stage (as seen during concerts in later years)?

Maybe it was printed out from "Mr. Vault Guy"? razz

.odt files are from the Open Office app. Probably Prince didn't want to pay to use Microsoft Office. smile Each of those files listed look to be Open Office text documents, so my guess is that the files are - perhaps - lyric files, and the piece of paper was a printout of files stored somewhere.

Also - his bedroom was majorly cleaned up between the day of the event and the search warrant documentation. The table beside his bed had tons of stuff (including a flash drive with recordings of the Atlanda Piano & Microphone shows) on it and was virtually bare when the police went back. Trash was removed, bed stripped. All the Five Hour Energy bottles and enema kits were removed.

Follow this topic. A few gygabytes have been released, that's where the pics originate from.

You just have to be careful with Dead Prince pics.

I chose not to touch it, just in case, so braver folks are filtering the few Gigabytes.
Others leech. Yeccch.

Yeah. Right on.
I'm still in "all of this stuff is really real" mode.
The clouds of the myth dissipated by the actual physical presence of all these hours of hard labour (and no pay, by the way, for most of them are never been released, although you could argue WB's advances count for it but let's keep it for another day) is a beautiful, somewhat emotional surprise.

But I'm not a junkie for news. I want my 16 multi-track Pro-Tools Free "Controversy" file.
I'm buying. Honestly.

'til now the only conclusion i take is that over 90% of titles are know, and there is little left in the vault that we dont know yet. Hope that changes soon!

I bet the digital forges at Iron Mountain are red hot 24/192, 24/7 as we speak.
And will be for quite some time.

I wish I was some kind of Ocean's 11 or whatever smart slink burgler, or some super thief, so I could sneak in at Iron Montain.

Anyone in for that ? biggrin

Like I said, I'm so fucking excited !

These pix alone make me happy. smile

No matter what state the Vault is in, I start to love this kind of chaotic 'secret shitty situation' Prince was in.

It makes him human, and somehow more understandable.

Seems he couldn't care less for much else than what he loved to do. Keeping up appearances? wink

Just like a 'hard to handle child' that doesn't like to be told what to do

So out little napoleon certainly must've felt on a pedestal with all these people around him, trying to clean up the chaos a bit. As if he the 'rooster' was sitting on the highest stick in the stal. wink

This whole vault and Prince's life is like a huge giant puzzle that start to make sense.

Prince - like a naughty young boy - wasn't all that good in cleaning up his room apparently.

He only wanted to 'play', 'record' and all that high end shit it seems. Exactly how it should be. smile

-

I remember from some (great!) stories from podcasts by Michael Koppelman (some years back), that he discovered the vault in a serious chaotic condition.

And if i remember well, he told that he started to clean it up a bit.

Really need to listen to those pocasts again, as they really start to make sense now. Now, where are they ?

smile

I agree, it's not the dire state the probably-for-a-reason alarming rumors made circulate.

Still, like Bart said, it's still not up to Prince's legacy, this stuff should have been
digitally ported years ago. But the restauration tools, these days, they're impressive (see NC2U video).

But, yeah, it was taken care of, again, I'm sure some of us remember
cassette trays from back in the day, until we dump all this junk in a yard's sale.
I mean it's OK, it's tapes on shelves, they need low light and the proper hygrometry,
which I'm sure the Vault had.

Are we sure these tapes were lying on the floor?
Isn't it the result of the police emptying a shelf for search purposes?

As you said, it makes it more human.
You gotta love the man.
Prince kept his shit close to himself.
"Damn right I want my tapes back!"

Then he tries to keep it ordered,
but it doesn't consider his work like the seventh wonder or something.
It's "just" a lifetime's work.

It looks like .odt is a file format for an Open Source equivalent of Microsoft Word.

Given one file per track, it's more likely these are hand lyrics transcripts.
Right, a set list it looks like.

Looks like our SKipper was all for Open Source. That's right, matey!
