My favorite song from that album.

This is one of those songs that reminds me of 1977-1979 Prince

.

"These days if I have Rhonda [S., formerly The Artist’s primary live bassist] play on something, she’ll bring in her Jaco influence, which is something I wouldn’t add if I played it myself. I did listen to Jaco -- I love his Joni Mitchell stuff -- but I never wanted to play like him." -Prince (Bass Player 1999)

.

.

Some days I feel tangerine
Some days I feel blue
Some days I just wanna black out
Everything I felt for U
Even though I take your picture
Everywhere I go
I use it for a coaster and drink the overflow

Some days I make a lot of money
And give it all away
2 take my mind off the tangerine colour
Of your negligee
Beggars can't be choosy
If they don't know how 2 serve
U got a different phone number
...and a lot of nerve

Some days I feel tangerine
Some days I miss U, 2

.

.

She started by learning to mimic his unique approach. "To play with him, you gotta be able to emulate his style," Smith added. Then, she began to build off of that. "When I first met him, I didn’t know his style that well," she told Bass Player. "Luckily, he had enough faith to know that whatever he could show me, I could learn. He was a great teacher."

He listened, too. Prince had taken to using electronics by then, using samples of fretless bass. Smith is credited with his eventual switch back to the real thing. "Yes, I think I did," Smith told No Tremble, laughing. "I don't think he ever used it again, and I was very happy for him."

Tamberine i always thought was ok..
Susan Rodgers said that was a better song
than “ 17 days” & “ all day, all night”.
She called those songs “jams”.
I strongly disagree with her on that one.
Those tunes blow away Tamberine.
“She’s always in my hair”is far superior
as well

Are you talking about Tamborine(1985 Around the World in a Day) or Tangerine(1999) Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic?

Prince was 'quite proficent' on the bass when Rhonda met him in 96? I beg to differ. And there are plenty of live and studio examples to prove his mastery.

Other than that, I agree. A beautifully simple, uncluttered song. I like the way the extended version plays out also.

It is not Rhonda Smith that made the comment but the writer of the article.

Sorry about that 😬..
I always liked “Tangerine” from the Rave album.
The only thing was wishing that it was longer with
more lyrics added.
When Rave In2 came out i was excited to see if that
was going to happen.
Instead a cool little solo was added on
at the end of it.
A bit disappointed but have always liked
that tune

I think its simple-ness makes it's shortness make me like it more
It has such a demo take to it that makes me like it more than anything on that album

"There are six members in the band and the sixth member is silence!" smile thats a great quote. And it shows that he has been paying a lot of attention to Miles Davis' music.
