Which Prince song has got you through a difficult time?

I dont know why but when I was struggling with alcoholism and thought I was going to drink myself to death and could see no way out I would put purple rain on and it would give me hope I have no idea why it did because it isnt about what I was going through at the time theres just something about it I cant quite put my finger on that gave me hope. Maybe it was the fact prince was an example of what someone could achieve in life I still find it very emotional when I listen to it today with years of sobriety.

I'm just like everybody else I need love.....and water.

I know this will be a bit cliche, but after my Grandmother passed away, listening to Comeback soothed me a bit. The tears were definitely there by the end.

I turn to his music in general when I want to escape and get my mind off of everything for a while but two of the songs that have helped me are The Love We Make and Don't Talk To Strangers.

Me too. I was going through a tough time in my life, and had just broken up with my Fiance at the time "Rave" came out, and I was listening to "I Love U" one day, and I could not stop crying. It still affects me today when I listen to it. sad

The Love We Make is the first song after P’s passing that made me fall in love with him and his music.
At the time, I really needed to hear the suggestions in that song.
It’s hard sometimes, to live in a world with other people, without direction and faith. Prince was very strong. He really lived what was in that song.
He was a great guide.

It's more about an album. Things that are more familiar to me I will play depending on the situation. Controversy and 1999 are go-to albums. Parade holds warm feels for me, too. As much as there are good memories associated with an album or song, there are tough times, too. So I have to watch what I listen to at a hard time, because I don't want other weird memories coming back.

Something upbeat. Like Controversy. Not the typical whimsical or forlorn songs people usually think of.

Thank you for sharing lonelyalien. Your story touched me knowing that through Prince's music you were able to find the inner strength to become who you are today. It sounds like Purple Rain will always be emotional for you for the reasons you stated.

Around the release of Emancipation my mother, who has since passed, was going through some health issues and Holy River was a real source of solace.

Many I guess, but in Summer/Fall of 2004 I became quite obsessed with Strange But True, which reflected quite perfectly my state of mind regarding moving on after a really important relationship ended. It did me some good nod

All of them. His songs were/are the soundtrack of my life. He's always 'been there' for me.

Anna Stesia and Positivity come to mind. There are several actually but those two jump out.

Uptown and Party Up came along at a good time in my life too.
