Some nice little tidbits here; and some new info from Van. He talks about how close he was with Prince; and mentions that most people didn't know how charitible Prince was. Good stuff.

When taken into context with all that's happened since April 21, 2016, this is rather interesting and I do appreciate the OP for posting it so that it's not overlooked nor forgotten.

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

someone's interesting take on all this:

Jay Z is a liar and a drug dealer. Prince broke away from Jay Z business wise at least a year or so prior to death once Tidal got into the huge lawsuit which was causing Tidal to fold and go defunct.. therefore Prince broke away and was posting his new music online via his new male and female proteges ( kids) on Tidido to stream all his music instead....Prince's estate also found out that Jay Z turned in a fraudulent contract to stream Prince music on Tidal after his death and that Jay Z did not pay Prince once cent for steaming the music even when Prince was alive ... Prince never gave Jay Z his vaulted music or music like that and the former Prince payrolled employee,Van Jones needs to stop kissing celebs behinds like that for a come up. Van obvoiusly wasn't as close to Prince as he wanted to be because Prince obvoiusly kept him at a certain distance and left him out of aspects of his life ...

Perhaps. That said, Van say he and Prince were really close so who are we to say otherwise? I mean, Van was the one who the broke the news that Prince gave a lot to charity--more than anyone ever knew! I love Van. He's the best.

There’s a full interview where more is said and I found JZ to be humble. I was impressed with his spirituality. However, I don’t know what to believe about his rel w/P because something else listed below resonates to me too.

See,we knew this last year but our memories are short.
There was also JZ trying to buy the catalogue from Tyka for a low amount, IMO.
I also agree that while I love Van very much, he can be VERY idealistic.

I don't trust JayZ or Van Jones; they are both phony and opportunists. Van likes to prop himself up on a pedestal like he is the authority of everything PRINCE. Gimme a break!! I think JayZ was trying to get all of Prince's music, so he could cash-in. JayZ never cared about Prince or his legacy.

Van does seem kind of oportunistic at times but those close to Prince seem to like him.Damaris promoted his show in a post on IG and she referred to him as her "Godfather" I've seen him commenting on a few of Prince's associates IGs as well. They all seem to be close.

I just get an odd vibe from him. He seems to be very cunning and he is very skillful at speaking and drawing the viewer in. He works in the media, so he knows all the tricks of the game. He works for CNN and the White House. He has a very impressive resume and background--but these media people, I have a hard time trusting a lot of what they say.

Nah, he's ok. He was great friends with Prince. If it wasn't for him, we wouldn't know how much Prince gave to charity.

One look at Prince's twitter feed proves this incorrect. Prince delivered an exclusive song to Tidal the Monday before his passing and was promoting Tidal actively on his twitter account. Both HITnRUN albums were made (at least initially) available exclusively on Tidal less than 8 months before Prince's death, along with several other exclusive songs and videos.

It was clearly an ongoing partnership.

Things may have been fine and dandy when Prince was still here, but something obviously changed once he passed away. Tidal was doing some unethical things and streaming Prince's music, which they were not authorized to do. I haven't heard anything else going on with that as of late. From what I've heard, Tidal is having financial problems.

The posters assertion was that Prince 'broke away' from Jay-Z and Tidal a year before his death. Prince's own twitter feed and dates of Tidal releases demonstrate the exact opposite.

Prince gave Tidal numerous albums to stream in his lifetime, including rare NPGMC titles. Obviously, Tidal had the rights to stream these as Prince was aware of them. What is debateable is the material added after Prince's death, but to my awareness, no wrongdoing on Tidal's part has yet been proven and they still have more Prince music than any other service.

When Van jones was on Andy Cohen he joked and said prince was a terrible friend, he would never hear from him until there was a problem and then prince would be there. In my experience it is easy to be a good friend in times of need, easy to take action and be busy problem solving together etc. My brother is like that, he enjoys the drama of a "situation" in the family and likes to "come to the rescue" it satisfies him. But we do not have a relationship, as he is uninterested in the "boredom" and the everydayness of a real day to day relationship. I do not think you are good friends if one of you is only there when something happens. Having said that van seems like a nice guy

FlyOnTheWall

If I'm not mistaken, it was Attorney Van Jones who connected Prince to Phaedra Ellis-Lamkins, who became his manager in 2014. The labor executive, social justice advocate, and businesswoman is credited with winning the battle that resulted in Prince finally gaining ownership of his master recordings. Jones has said that he had never seen Prince happier than the day he learned that his decades-long war for his masters was finally victorious.

Yup. Van was instrumental. He and Prince were great friends. If it wasn’t for Van, we’d never know about all the great work that Prince did for charities.

Lord almightly!!!! This is sickening to watch!!!! They are so far up eachother's arse that it will take a very brave search party to save them!

Why is it that people are always desperate to name drop Prince? It's disgusting.

Why oh why keep playing the 'black' card. Get over it, move on! He's not your borther and nor am I.

I pity these very sad and lonely individuals who clearly have nothing left in their lives other to latch onto any tiny fibre of a thread that may link them to Prince.

That's what I'm saying -- "after" Prince died, Tidal was doing shady business. They backdated contracts and streaming music they were not authorized to. Tidal also lied about how many subscribers they actually have. There was also some Tidal event/concert that Prince was scheduled to perform and did not show.

Well, I tend to get protective or jealous sometimes.
But I think that while Van comes across as very enthusiastic sometimes, he is really, really proud of his friendship with Prince, and Prince obviously had a huge impact on him.
Does he worship him. Yep. I do too.
Guilty as charged!
