What's your take on the relationship between "The War" and Gil Scott Heron's "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised"? It's clear that Prince was referencing it, and made it obvious enough that you know he wanted you to know that's what he was doing. But I came to Prince long after that was released, and I haven't yet done a deep dive into what else was going on with him that might've made him do "The War" when he did.

I could go on and on about it. In short order, a few things are clear to me. Prince pulled great influence from Heron's piece more in ideology than a chant. Heron spoke about the in-your-face approach to the revolution with blacks in America, while Prince exposed the more subversive nature of it. Both talked about the false images you see on television (or computers) and how media's idea of a perfect North America is just that - false. Prince talked basically about how people buy into fake news for the sake of a false sense of security.

In the end, Prince was continuing Heron's message for a new generation and a new millennium.

I agree about your statement, I can't agree about people taking mess about Michael, now he is gone, like the story a couple of years ago, a white girl had a half black baby, because she had been messing around with a brotha, she blamed that shit on Michael Jackson, and said his ghost impregnated her while she was watching This it it. I like all 3 of them, but they are so incomparable.

I really don't like Sonny's singing voice for most of the time, but as the songs are that good, it's still my favorite of the 3.

You're right. They are incomparable.

I'd rate them:

Exodus (by a mile). One of my all time favorite Prince records.
NPS (underrated). Catches a ton of shit but not anywhere near his worst stuff.
Gold Nigga (forgettable). I couldn't name 2 or 3 songs off of it.

I have GN laying around here somewhere and can't recall listening to it more than 2 or 3 times.
