Did Salt n' Pepa and Jamie Starr write "Push It"?

So, as I was looking at Prince's IMDB soundtrack page for another thread, I noticed he's listed on Salt n' Pepa's "Push It" as a writer under Jamie Starr.

The actual page for "Push It" (video short) has nothing about him on it. Wikipedia doesn't note anything, nor does Princevault.

Is IMDB a misprint or am I missing something?

hmmm the only Prince connection I can think of is the line "this dance ain't for everybody...only the sexy people",a line that Morris Day says in the song "The Bird" (written by Prince)

Wow, not remembering that at all. I've not listened to "Push It" in ages. I guess I don't remember it off hand.

Fact... in 1988 Prince used to request “Push It” a lot from DJ’s at afterparties while on the Lovesexy tour.

He's also played stuff like "None Of Your Business", "Shoop" and other stuff throughout the 90s.

Yes, there seemed to be a mutual appreciation. They name checked him in Shoop; 'like Prince said you're a sexy mutha.' And then he had Mayte say that line throughout TMBGIW Staxowax remix, but changed the 'Prince' to 'he'

Never knew that. ASWADP was one of my favourite albums as a kid too.

Strive

Makes me wonder about Stay Tuned. Released by Warner and features a segment of Salt-N-Pepa interacting with John Ritter dressed up like 1991 VMA Prince.

Was he in on the joke?

"Alphabet St." Do you know what that song is really about? Somebody told me! I was just in the studio singing the song. Honestly, I didn't know. On truth. On the Bible.

.
I was in the studio with Prince for two or three nights and I was so exhausted. I was tired and he left me. He said "I'm going home now and I want you to record your vocals. When I come back, I want to make sure they sound good."

.
He knew I loved Salt 'n' Pepa. He said "You better get it right, because, if you don't, Salt 'n' Pepa are going to rag on you!" He left me in Studio A at Paisley Park and showed me just one time how to work the board to record my stuff. I recorded my stuff. Sure did.

.
Prince is the type of person that if you don't know how to do something, he'll show you one time and he has that much faith in you that you can do it. Of course, you don't want to disappoint him. So, I said "I'm going to do this. He knows I love Salt 'n' Pepa. How dare he throw them up in my face!" If anybody approved of my rapping, I wanted it to be Salt 'n' Pepa.

.
Actually, their manager (Herbie "Lovebug" Azur), called me up one day and wanted me to choreograph one of their videos, after "Push It" came out.
