Big Band does I Hate U

Not the tightest band around but still it's nice 2 see women sing this... she even reverse lyrics to: 'Did you do to your other girls the same things that you did to me?'

I really enjoyed this. How refreshing to hear a Prince cover that isn't Purple Rain, Kiss, etc (you know the same five songs)

This is really enjoyable and doesn´t stray too much from the original.

I really like this, and it´s a great and unusual choice for a cover song.

" I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Yay!

To think that semi-pros do better than mega-stars when it comes to tributes... says much of the music business state.

It's all about the long tail. With time, we'll have more and more quality covers, by real musicians.
They're the ones who know what "Let’s Work" means.

That's right, show them lazy punk asses!

Anyone noticed Live in Norway? Reminded me that Vikings are the ones who made that epic 50th Anniversary tribute - Shockadelica...

Anyway, arrangements are important so we really need real musicans to do Prince in this manner more often.

But also a reminder what a classic composition I Hate U is, man... just lyrically, did you noticed how intense and sensual sounds when women sings those lyrics? Ok, maybe sounds even a bit fierce, but no other male contemporary artist can make women sing about getting into the act of showing how good it used to be... and in the same time it doesnt sounds like some cheap erotica. For example, Madonna's Erotica was cheap & explicit. I mean its hard today, when every sex taboo is disfugured... But with Prince it was always more cosmological - what happens next depends upon your style... In some parallel universe the real literature Nobel prize winner is not Dylan, its Prince.

What I wouldn't give to be a fly on the wall from the moment whoever it was first suggested that song (You want to sing what?!!!) to the first rehearsal to the last rehearsal to the crowd when the racier parts of the song were being sung. Shout out to the lead singer - beautiful voice and she sang the song like she meant it. Some of the background singers seemed a little timid. The band seemed kinda out of control at times ("Confusion!!!") but they gave it a good try. Good job.

Done nicely and yes it's nice to hear a different cover and not the same 5 songs.

One thing though....waaaay back in 1996 I attended Berklee College of Music and I befriended a lot of other students from Sweden and the other Scandanavian countries. Of course, they being all musicians trying to break one day into the music business and so they all held Prince in high regard and were fans. Whenever I'd go to their houses for parties or gatherings, The Gold Experience was always around or on the stereo. I specifically remember one occasion when Billy Jack Bitch was on and everyone was really admiring the horn section on that one. Just flipping out at how awesome it was.

I notice here that this band is from Norway.

I mean, the guy does it in one take.
One take! ...and lots of rehearsing, hearings...

Talk about focus.
These are Prince tributes on more than one level.
There is emotional depth.
You can feel the love.

I was waiting to see if they'd do the spoken parts. The middle aged lady backing singers saying "Blly Jack Bitch' made me chuckle.

.

The whole thing was bizarrely brilliant.

razz I absolutely love "I Hate U" and it was great to hear this band's performance. I enjoyed that the vocalist sang the middle part of the song--it enrages me when I hear the edited version, as it takes the soul right out of it, as blue as it might be! I definitely would like to get my hands on that Shockadelica tribute compilation.

Speaking of Big Bands...

by The Eaton Canyon Royal Ensemble.
Don't pay attention to the visuals.

Pity YT seems to have banned their official Purple Rain album videos.
Please would someone shoot the Sheriff already.

At first, TBO sounds like a spaced-out Copacabana, but wait for it.

Here's the last source available.
It's the whole Purple Rain album, by this Big Band.
Great accurate instrumental arrangements on Prince lead vocals, on all songs.

Check out "When Doves Cry" in a Manouche Jazz fashion.
