40th anniversary deluxe editions dream

I have not been at the forum for a while, so forgive me if this has already been a topic. I thought it would be great since 2018 is the 40th anniversary of "For You" that they release an expanded deluxe edition for it and then next year for "Prince" and so on as each album turns 40. Anyone know how to make that happen or put a bug in someone's ear?

There are other things that merit an expanded edition before this - the only Prince album not to go gold on its initial release.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I love a lot of the demos that didn't make it, like Leaving 4 New York

what what a deluxe edition look like for you?

It's a great idea - but you could make it more of an event - go back and do a 'Prince the Early Years' boxset that includes For You, plus the alternate takes and I'm sure they were plenty of other out-takes, then delve back into the development of Prince with the earlier demos he was working on - it's a good way to get people into a fairly unloved/unknown album by hyping it up as something grander than it is - plus the early demos probably couldn't stand alone as a release - so combining it all in one package is a no-brainer IMHO! How many CDs though is dependant on the material available. There could be 2 or 3 different editions (2 disk, 4 disk, 8 disk!)

No way in hell those albums are going to get a stand-alone deluxe remaster until the true classics get a proper work-out. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if such releases would initially be part of a "first decade" box set and perhaps then released separately.

I certainly agree those classic albums are screaming for attention.

It really bugs me that the world sees Prince as 1984 to 1987 - obviously we all know better!

I say screw 1987 and let's celebrate 1978 to 1982 as Prince was on fire!

The early years are some of my favorite to delve into.
I would pay money for a nice deluxe set/cd/dvd booklet
.
I think they should release the For You deluxe along with the last Prince (unreleased) album or Piano & Mic Show 2016

.

These would be really revealing photos that reconnects old fans and new audiences to this artistic genius.

Some of his early photoshoots were slightly awkward, and not very professional - the one at the piano (leaning on the chair) is pretty good and he always looked good performing live. So i would be very selective on what photos to include in a deluxe box set of his early works!

They could put all the demos on and songs like

.

Rock me lover

Leaving or new york

Nightingale

Soft and wet (Original version with lyrics like "Angora fur, aegean sea")

Hey Lover

Do you wanna ride

Sweet thing

Wouldn't you love to love me (1976 acoustic mix)

I spend my time loving you

Jelly Jam

Make it through the storm

Baby (1977 mix)

We can work it out

.

We could call it "Afro Topped Dreams"

.

Genesia - Dirty Mind also failed to go Gold on its initial release, only going Gold in 1984. They claimed it sold about 475k copies.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

I like the feeling of capturing that early period, without making everything 'polished', it sorta feels like 1977. Captured in the moment feel.

He just looked so black back then. Very natural and real. Prince was trying to return to this look near his death. Many black people go through this, their skin naturally lightens as they age, but these photos make Prince look so natural.

still looked like a lot of mixed folk to me

I think this period as well as the Prince era reminds me of Lovesexy

I don't think he was trying to return to a look though

and the fro (even according to his hair dresser), had no social political meaning, just to give his hair a rest from years of perming. I like natural on people in general no matter the texture

It is still hard 4 me to look at his latter photos, knowing something was seriously wrong

these earlier years images and music was were I went to right after he died

and I too love these photos

He just looked so black back then.

Very natural and real. Prince was trying to return to this look near his death.
Many black people go through this, their skin naturally lightens as they age, but these photos make Prince look so natural.

Errr... How can I put it in a way as not to offend nor unnerve?

They could put all the demos on and songs like

.

Rock me lover

Leaving or new york

Nightingale

Soft and wet (Original version with lyrics like "Angora fur, aegean sea")

Hey Lover

Do you wanna ride

Sweet thing

Wouldn't you love to love me (1976 acoustic mix)

I spend my time loving you

Jelly Jam

Make it through the storm

Baby (1977 mix)

We can work it out

.

We could call it "Afro Topped Dreams"

.

Genesia - Dirty Mind also failed to go Gold on its initial release, only going Gold in 1984. They claimed it sold about 475k copies.

i love Jellyjam

I forgoet to add it to me dream Deluxe Demo list

I cannot remember the song at this moment, but it feels like asong from his first album

Jellyjam with the fast claps and its percussions immediately take me to Tick Tick Bang(81) Darling Nikkie & Tamborine

and Kiss Me Quick, which so feels like a For You outtake

I agree, he was truly a genius from the start. Even then Prince was all about trying various soundscapes and working with them. The Sound80 and Testament 1976/77/78 folders have some great stuff.

.

I did want to offend anyone with my remarks about his complexion, really trying to move away from my reputation for saying ignorant shit. I was complimenting him on the fact his afro and skin colour made him look natural, and it was obvious he was a role model, a Black teenager from the middle of nowhere getting carte blanche from a record label to explore his creativity.

.

This was a young man's whose raw talent had so much promise, everyone could see he was going to be huge and had a rare gift in music.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Yep, there must be someone at Warner Bro. I can contact, to let them know what needs to come out lol

.

Yes, I love that natural look, but I think all things 1970s looked natural, his Prince era look looked just as natural. Which is why I tie that Lovesexy cover/look with his 1979 Prince period so much...

.
I remember reading something from Bobby Z a long time ago, saying when he first started working with Prince(which was 94East) he saw something special about Prince that he could dedicate his whole life career to. That says a lot for someone who had not even had an album on the market yet.

I thought it would be great since 2018 is the 40th anniversary of "For You" that they release an expanded deluxe edition for it and then next year for "Prince" and so on as each album turns 40.

We'd definitely need more than one release per year to keep the excitement up, but yes, I agree the 40th anniversary of P's first album is the perfect time to begin!

I have not been at the forum for a while, so forgive me if this has already been a topic. Anyone know how to make that happen or put a bug in someone's ear?

No way in hell those albums are going to get a stand-alone deluxe remaster until the true classics get a proper work-out. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if such releases would initially be part of a "first decade" box set and perhaps then released separately.

A box set with additional material would be cool.

To be honest a box set could be done for every album!

Some of his early photoshoots were slightly awkward, and not very professional - the one at the piano (leaning on the chair) is pretty good and he always looked good performing live. So i would be very selective on what photos to include in a deluxe box set of his early works!

I like the feeling of capturing that early period, without making everything 'polished', it sorta feels like 1977. Captured in the moment feel.

yeahthat

I love this photo. heart

I like what Gianetti did with the released cover, but because I like ^this one more, I wish he would have used this one instead

This would have been a really good cover photo too, it is very mysterious
