What we have dates back to early D&P sessions and was removed from the album's tracklist quite early in the process. Considering that all those early D&P configs songs were tinkered with before release, it's likely Schoolyard would have sounded much less demo-ish if it had been "finished". Thematically it felt a bit out of place on the album, and the "Schoolyard" chant on the chorus is a bit of a downer IMHO, so I can totally feel why it was removed, but I think a more polished version could have been really cool.

Probably my least favourite Prince lyrics.
