Okay, I'll start off the discussion. Despite pre-ordering the hardcover version of the book on Oct. 30th and today being the release date, Amazon still says that it has not yet shipped and that they need a little more time to provide me with a good estimate on delivery. They will notify me via e-mail as soon as they have an estimated delivery date. Also, they say this usually happens when an item doesn't have a release date, it's pre-ordered, or it's out of stock. WTF? I've never encountered this with any previous books that I've ordered from Amazon. On his Facebook page, the author(Duane Tudahl) says: "Today is the day my book is officially released. It may not ship for a few more days...." He doesn't explain the reason for the delay. This is beginning to annoy me a little bit. I don't mind waiting a little longer but it's the lack of information that irks me. However, after being a Prince fan for all of these years, I guess I should be used to having a lack of information by now. Has anybody else heard anything or received their physical copy today?

What is the point of recommending "The Vault?" It's been out of print for years and will not likely ever be reprinted, add to that the extortionate prices for used copies, and you would be as well recommending a potato.

I cannot wait to get my hands on this book. I look forward to reading people's thoughts on the book. Finally a book about Prince after his death that is not exploitative and self-serving by an ex-wife or other associate.

Well, if it's true that Amazon hasn't received them yet, then the publisher or whoever isn't being very professional. Those books should have already been in Amazon's warehouses so they could start shipping them on the release day, which is today! Just sayin'.

Yeah, this is an inconvenience. I pre-ordered my copy over a month ago.

I pre-ordered mine longer than than--and yeah, I suppose it's an inconvenience. I have to admit I thought it might even be possible itwould show up today, but certainly by the weekend. I still want to have it at hand before the Thanksgiving visit to my in-laws', at least.

What exactly is the hold up, anyway? Why doesn't Amazon have the books yet?

Duane Tudahl is now saying on his Facebook page:

.

We are all waiting for Amazon to ship the book, so if you can't wait another day go to DuaneTudahl.com to download the PREFACE and FIRST CHAPTER (and there is a bonus discount coupon at the end!) I hope that helps until Amazon starts getting the book to you. Thank you for all the enthusiasm. I've been waiting 20+ years for this so I can completely relate!

.

It sounds like he's laying the blame on Amazon. I don't know who; Amazon, Rowman & Littlefield Publishers, or Duane Tudahl, but somebody needs to get their shit together and get this book shipped.

Hey everyone, I am really excited about getting this out there as well. I wish I had information about the delay, but it just sounds like the books haven't gotten to the publisher or to Amazon yet but I've been assured that they'll be there soon and shipped asap but I don't have a date yet. Wish I had more clout in this area (or that they'd just publicly pushed the release date if needed), but I write 'em, I don't ship 'em! lol

I've been waiting for 20 years to have you read it, so I completely understand your feelings about getting it as quickly as possible.

In the meantime the ebook has shipped, so that is a step in the right direction.

The Huffington Post wrote a great review today

and I want to make sure that everyone notices the final part:

One lucky fan will be eligible to win a free copy of Tudahl’s book by tweeting my post about this piece on Twitter with the hashtag
#PurpleRainSessions between November 17-25, 2017. The winner will be selected at random and announced on my Twitter account @AishaStaggers and on Tudahl’s Facebook group page, Prince: The Complete Studio Sessions Book Series. Giveaway open to U.S. residents, 18 and over, only.

If you want the Preface and first chapter, go to DuaneTudahl.com and you can download them as well as a 30% coupon off coupon to order it from the publisher (although I don't think it will get out any quicker than Amazon).

Thank you to everyone who has helped on this project. Let me know if you have any questions and I can't wait to hear your thoughts on the book.

Duane

The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

I know we're living in an 'everything now' culture, but this book has been 20+ years in the making.

I don't think it's going to hurt fans to wait a few more days for its delivery.

As mentioned above by Duane, you can download the first chapter for free to wet your appetite.

There are indeed a lot of bad Prince books, but don't overlook Let's Go Crazy (2014) by Alan Light, which is a wonderful recounting of the c.1983-1985 Purple Rain-era recordings and movie. It's outstanding, though it sounds like (based on a cursory glance) this new one goes into finer detail about the recording sessions.

Still, I recommend Light's book to everyone. Not only is it the fantastic story of Prince's finest hour, it also has a chapter discussing the confluence of pop-culture and pop-music in 1984 that was unique in American history, and which contributed to the Purple Rain phenomenon.

Pre-ordered from Amazon myself--I wish this release were going more smoothly. You've been whetting my appetite for years with this thing, madhouseman--I'm ready for the actual feast. Any idea on when we'll get it from them? (If you've given information somewhere else, Duane, I haven't seen it).

preordered... obviously thru amazon didn't get it yet, but I said fck it.

I appreciate the time it takes to archive and write the book , so I bought the kindle version too.

So far I am enjoying it.

these are my favorite types of books, as I enjoy the studio and song info the most,

Also anything good enough for Per Nilsen, is good with me, he set the bar for this type of exhausting work.

there's always a rainbow.... at the end of any rain
