Or D'Angelo doing a scorching version of Hot Thing around the re-release of Sign Of The Times??

As much as I appreciate D'Angelo on his own terms and own projects, I can do without hearing him mumble all over 'Hot Thing'. I'm simply not interested in hearing any other artists covering Prince's work. Prince was one of kind. His own live performances and songs (if promoted correctly) are the best marketing for any release.

I haven't heard D's version of "Hot Thing" but all the covers I've heard him do have been done respectful and in good taste. ie Tori Amos, Alicia Keys, etc. But like I said if they were to do unreleased material I think it would make more sense than the hits.

I think I still one one of these kicking about somewhere. That's about as close to this idea as I'm prepared to get.

I was just thinking of that one!

An album of new Prince cover versions would be really bad indeed!

Yet a compilation of Prince penned songs by other artsits and classic covers would be very interesting indeed! I don't see what would be wrong with bringing Prince's body of work together in this way.

The writing Prince did for other artists can't be ignored and is some of his best... Nothing Compares 2 U, Love Thy Will Be Done, Yo Mister, With This Tear, etc... etc... etc...

No no no!

But how about a boxed set of all his albums? Or at least a greatest hits (hits in lose terms) that contains music from 1994-2015. How hard could that be if the Estate owns all the masters?

The way to keep prince relevant is to cater to his current hardcore fan base ... let prince become an enigma like dylan floyd hendrix ... box sets with live shows alt takes and out takes ... make the money keep his name in the news with each release .. make public that fans clamour for rare prince ... this is how young kids got into the classics .. not via a pink floyd remix with will i am .. but by promoting the reality that many obsess over prince so maybe check him out

When we get eventual re-releases of classic Prince albumsn, as a means of marketing the material to a younger audience, how about having artists perform covers from the album?

For example, when the re-release of CONTROVERSY happens, along with the original album remasterm the b-sides, the unreleased tracks, the accompanying live album from the era tour, etc., how about having someone like St. Vincent doing a cover of Private Joy?

What do you think?

What could be other cover-collaborations?

How about for PRINCE having Sufjan Stevens cover WHEN WE'RE DANCING CLOSE AND SLOW?

Or, for DIRTY MIND, having Lady Gaga cover HEAD?

Or, for 1999, having CHROMEO cover D.M.S.R.???

THIS and then resurrect and expand the NPG Music Club. Did anyone check out the Neil Young Archives (free until June 30 then they will charge a modest fee) It’s amazing what they had in there set up with a 70s feel...electronic file cabinets with folders holding all his work. Prince archives could charge a modest fee and the heirs would be set for life. That may take a while to set up but in the meantime release the concert vids etc ASAP.

What album is the public gonna be interested in do we think, they only know Purple Rain so unless they cover just random hits the album to try this with already had its reissue. But no thanks to this, Elton John did this with Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, it was the album demos and a live disc and then a covers disc which I couldn’t get through, awful.

the best thing they should market is live PRince professionally shot videos...released at a decent affordable price with some highlights featured on vevo or somewhere else easily accessible.

NO, NO and NO. The only covers I like of Prince songs are "Sometimes it Snows" and "My Summertime Thang" by D'Angelo but the drawbridge is up as far as any future covers are concerned. There are way too many vault tracks and live performances to even justify such a thought.

Another poster in here reminded me of the pure foolishness that was Thriller 08. It was so bad it actually made me not want to listen to Thriller at all for a while, the fact that Michael even allowed that...
