Don’t have the book with me, who was engineer that day? Susan Rogers? Maybe someone can ask her to confirm...

According to the book it was Peggy McCreary--but since the piano jam tape was apparently given to Appolonia as a sleep aid, I'm guessing that she also might have confirmed it.

A lot of people thought it was Prince. The argument that it didn't 'sound like Prince's playing style' is valid. But when you've heard enough soundboards of him playing Mozart or Bach's concerto #1 at soundcheck flawlessly while giving the sound engineer instructions on various levels and effects for the night, then you knew it surely could be and likely was Prince. There are fans that argued me down to the ground in the 90's that Venus de Milo was Lisa. Prince didn't play everything his abilities allowed on record. In Tudahl's book, Prince takes deleted an apparently fantastic guitar solo because it was too perfect. Other musicians would've kept it because it was that good but that dude was different.

Just because it was perfect in his words doesn't mean it was actually that good. He called emancipation the album he was born to make.

It wasn't just Prince that said the solo was "too perfect". You should read Duane's book, it is incredible.

I'm not a big follower of Prince fans, so I had no idea that there was a large group who felt this recording wasn't him. I'm with leadine in that I felt very strongly that this WAS Prince from my first listen about two years ago. It just has that kinda "Euro-vibe" that's all over Prince's piano playing from the 1984-86 era. To me, it seemed obvious that the guy who played on Venus De Milo, the instrumental version of 'God', and the piano portion of the Syracuse '85 concert was definitely the same guy who played on this tape.

What's a "Euro-vibe"?

Hey loudmouth, shut the fuck up, right?

I could swear it was Prince on the album version's intro of Like A Prayer, and Scififilmnerd was certain he could hear Prince on Get Satisfied, and we were both eventually proven right),

I'm impressed that you would remember that. I had forgotten about it myself. Must have been a long time ago, like 10 years or so at least. Good times. Thanks for the reminder. biggrin

Okay, since I also wanted to know, I'll ask the question again, in a more specific way--the bolded implies that you have heard these soundboards featuring Prince doing these things--like a lot of people, I have some recordings I haven't gotten around to listening to, so which recordings have this material? Then I can see if I have them, listen to them, and hear exactly what you're talking about. That would certainly be more helpful than you deciding to refer to Susannah's facebook (unless she's decided to post these recordings, of course).

Go to a place where you can find 100 plus guitars and download...shoot me a message I may be able to send you something but I have so much it will take me a while to sift through. Some of this stuff is mid rehearsal.

Wasn't that place with all the guitars ceased and desisted some years ago, and so ever since there has been nothing of that nature to download from there, or am I missing something?

Lemmy, Bowie, Prince, Leonard. RIP.

Indeed. But Bingo! to which - there's nothing there, or I'm missing something?

I've been enjoying this for years on heavy rotation, 'knowing' it was Prince. Ya'll need to open your minds a bit more. The original threadback in 2014 is hilarious with everyone betting the farm this wasn't Prince, throwing out all these technical terms they know nothing about, etc. If this was never confirmed, 99% of you would have never listened to this 15 minute piano masterpiece ever again, but all the evidence was there from the beginning to support that it was indeed him.

I will say it again, if you take a step back, you will realize this sounds exactly like Prince. Most of you are used to listening to Prince play while he is singing, which employs a whoe different technique of playing to complement the vocals. Here we have him just on piano, with no vocals, so he has a lot more room to add color.

If you listen to Eavesdropped In Intimate Moments piano playing, or, Lovesexy Live medley, it is unmistakable who this is.
