Uncut Magazine - Prince Music Guide

Just bought this yesterday and wondering if you guys have it. It was probably released 6 or so months ago, but being in New Zealand, we get everything last.

.

What it is is a 128 or so page magazine with only a few pages of ads from arrogant English muso magazine Uncut (The same one that put Bob Dylan on the cover instead of Prince when he died). It has reviews of all of his Studio albums (NPGMC, but no Goldnigga, Exodus of NPS) and some DVDs. It is very detailed and has some great shots interspersed with some interesting old articles from NME and Melody Maker. What I have a problem with is the marks. It is obvious that a non fan marked them (Every song is marked from 1 star to 5 stars).

.

Surprisingly only a few get 5 stars and many so called classics like Adore, International Lover, The Love we make, Gold Standard get 3 stars!. Adore got 3 stars along with Mountains, yet Kiss and My name is Prince get 5 - I mean truly WTF. Prince's most golden classics get basically Cs from these rock and roll hardened white Englishmen, who think funk begins and ends with Stevie Wonder. They only give a few songs a 1 star, but these include rubbish like Mr Goodnight, whereas some truly rubbish songs like Trust (4 stars!!!), Jughead, Everybody loves me (2 stars) and Boytrouble (3 stars), yes that is right Boytrouble is as good as Adore.

.

Anyone else seen this and what do they think of these crazy ass marks.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

I bet some guy was given the task of reviewing and listening to every prince song in a two week period and didnt' have time to let any one of the deeper cuts absorb. My Name is Prince got 5?? And Darling Nikki got two...Yeah,that's some bullshit. Yeah, they just gave the hits five stars. MNIP is shitty stupid ass songs. Part of the problem is that reviewers of music are often obsessed with supposed relevance rather than musical prowess or art. So of course, they review the better known songs with respect and skim through the rest while trying to meet a deadline.

You can type the word 'Uncut' in the Google Search box, and read other people's comments when the magazine was reviewed here:

Like I said, I live in New Zealand, hot copy is not busted here first, second of all I haven't got all day to scroll through threads. If I have offended you, I apologise from the bottom of my heart. Also I am on holiday and the internet is very erratic here, so can't do all the usual stuff I would do at home.

Feel stupid, as I found the thread, 3 pages and you are all saying the same things as me. Good as it looks, a rushed out publication to cash in on a dead celebrity. It cost $21.50 in our dollars, some real books cost less than that. And 3 months ago, damn New Zealand, we get everything last.

.

2 stars for Darling Nikki and 5 for Take me with you, yes they knew what they were doing. Still a nice and colourful addition to my Prince memorabilia.

Don't give me that...there isn't a "real book" in New Zealand that costs as little as $21.50! biggrin wink

Uncut had Prince on the cover after he died. It was Mojo that had a Bob Dylan special at that time.
I didn't buy the Uncut Prince special because it didn't look like it was telling me anything new.

You guys are so nitpicky, both are very similar. I was on Holiday away from my Prince collection when I worte this and do not have a mega memory. Unlike you guys in your snow bound wasteland, we have summer in our country and holidays.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name
