Prince Rarities 5 Cassette Tape - RARE OR NOT?

Hello members of Prince.org,

I'm a huge Prince fan and have a few old cassette tapes and vinyl albums of his, but one tape has interested me for a while. It came into my possession through my great uncle around 2-3 years ago and has been sitting in my room ever since, barely being played as I am currently at University.

The tape is called 'Prince rarities 5' and has a lot of tracks on it that I cannot find anywhere on the internet. The track list is as follows:

SIDE ONE:

The Stick (rehearsal)

The Ball (outtake 1987)

Good Love (outtake)

Lukewarm Lumpy Moojuice (outtake)

2 sexy

ATWIAD (demo)

Dance Electric (demo)

The Bird (demo)

High Fashion (demo)

SIDE TWO:

Cross the Line ('88)

Bedtime Story (demo)

When Doves Scream

Purple Rain

Neon Telephone

Mutiny (demo)

Desire (demo)

Destiny

U Just Want Me 4 My Sex

As I have said, with some research online I cannot find any traces of whether this is legit or not, and think it is time to get some views from people, like yourselves, who may lnow a bit more about this kind of thing.

Ultimately, I want to find out whether it is rare or not, and whether it would be better placed in a museum or exhibition.

Let me know what you think!

Thanks

It's a strange mix of unreleased songs and rehearsals throughout the 80s in a messed up order. There were lots of bootleg cassettes and CDs like that in the 1980s/90s. Most of these have been known among Prince collectors for years, but if they're new to you and the tape sounds good, enjoy!
The only one that puzzles me is the one called Lukewarm (etc.) Could be fake, could be a wrong title... Just like the last track is actually The Sex of it.

Those tracks WERE rare back when that cassette was made. And that's what's cool!

If you are of a certain age (say, 40 or older), then this was the way you got bootlgs and outtakes. And it was awesome! Trading or obtaining a cassette like this was like Christmas.

I hope you enjoy that cassette and when listening to it, try to imagine the excitement all down the line - from the person who gathered the songs; to the person who put them on tape; to the person who circulated it the first time; all the way to that tape making to your great uncle.

"Lukewarm Lumpy Moojuice" falloff

Seriously though, I second (third?) everything NorthC & Rodeo said. This isn't anything new ('cept maybe "Moojuice" LOL) but it's a decent start if you're not familiar with Prince bootlegs. Now use your googles to find updated (and properly titled) copies of these tracks and hundreds more! Enjoy the ride... wink cool

"Luke-warm Lumpy Moojuice" is real haha, it's on Youtube! It's by "Mr. T and The T-Funk All-Stars feat. Pleasure" which is basically Mr. T singing over "Six" by Madhouse.. Kinda bizarre

If it's really the "demo", it might really be from a rehearsal or a soundcheck mislabeled as a "demo".

U just want me for my sex, is almost certainly the 1987 version of "The Sex of it" a song he gave to Kid Creole and the Coconuts. Not surre if that tape is rare now, but hold on to it, it gives us all warm memories when Prince bootlegs were all on these 4th and 5th generation dubbed bootleg tapes, now with CD's streaming and professional sounding bootleg sets like The Work, these bootleg cassettes are true nostalgia.

.

I had a few bootleg cassettes back in the mid 90s and they were complete shit, falling apart after a few listens.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

That's more likely. Bootleggers often messed things up like that.
