My old dance teacher (now a high-profile choreographer) recently told me that in the dance field Prince is not considered a professional dancer, while Michael Jackson is. I still think Prince was a more fluid dancer - some of his moves actually remind me of the Nicholas brothers' - whilst Michael's style was more rigid and his routines were very repetitive. Interestingly, it was Paula Abdul who choreographed the Thriller video and amongst other things she also choreographed Prince's Batdance video.

he looks insane right there...if you were at a club and were on the dance floor and someone started doing that, everyone would grab their coats and purses and run out while in a crouched position.

That's what happens when you put rhythmless Damaris on stage as your 'dancer' lol

Cherry I thought it was Micheal Peters who did both Beat it and Thriller. I know
Paula has done a ton of work with great people tho.

How is Damaris responsible for his moves?

Someone I worked with once told me that and I believed them lol, they probably had got mixed up with the Batdance video.
The same person also claimed that she is one of the dancers in Thriller, maybe that wasn't true either then...

paula was a great choreographer though, she did the dance sequence in coming to america and of course a lot of janet jackson's work.

Something about the way MJ moved led me to believe that he properly warmed up his body. The was something about the way he used his instrument that made me think that, could be that he was in The business as a kid and had exposure to dance teachers earlier. He had precision that was apparent especially when he did huge group dances with more than 5 people. You have to be precise. And he was great at huge Dance numbers with extended dances. Prince was better alone, no surprise,
Prince could surely outlast MJ on the dance floor because his improvised dancing flourished there. Micheal was like most ballerinas on the dance floor, polished but lackinG improvisational power.

Ummm MJ is very fluid. His fluidity and precision are some of his best attributes dance wise. It's why people put him above Bobby and Chris. His dancing in his prime was seamless and he had pretty good technique for a non trained dancer.

He did Beat It not sure about Thriller. He was one of the choreographers for Smooth Criminal as well

MJ did lots of improving dancing as well.
Prince's moves looked more like improvising but they weren't any less coordinated than MJs.

They both had attitude. But their attitudes were different.

Micheal Peters was the go to guy in the era, he was great! That is him in the white suit in the knife dance off in Beat it.”

I would have preferred Prince in a club Micheal not so much. Someone moonwalking away from me on the dance floor is not sexy or doing that spin on the hockey puck.

Well could you see MJ doing that Holy Ghost Dance that OF4S posted back up top?

Now that is fluid and charismatic church!

MJ wouldn't have danced in a club how he danced on stage...
Make no mistake, MJ could get down with the best of em if he needed to.

MJ didn't need to do that.
No that's not fluid AT ALL...

Haha. This is one of my favorites. Y'all need to come to New Orleans. We got folks ages 2 to 92 - all colors shapes and sizes, dancing like that on the regular! #congosquare

Considering this is a 55 year old man with hip problems, its pretty fvcking impressive. Plus, I think P is partly just playing around anyway.

I’ll have to take your word cause there is little physical evidence
To support MJ as a good club dancer without resorting to theatrical
Dance move.

Come on, y'all don't know what that crazy dance is? Also watch P, Shelby and Elisa all break it down like that on COOL.

IT'S THE PEEWEE HERMAN DANCE!

Misty Copeland: There was one Pee-wee Herman movie that he was obsessed with. It was silly, like him, and funny, and quirky—watching Pee-wee Herman dance he just thought was the funniest thing.

Prince has certainly had lessons throughout his career, which has been confirmed by multiple sources, especially during the PR era.

Saying that, I was never a fan of Prince's elaborate, choreographed dance moves. I love the punkish Mick Jagger-esque moving of his early career, it seems so much more authentic and is full off attitude and character. Some of his dancing put's me off watching certain performances. The Graffiti Bridge and Diamonds and Pearls era were the absolute worst, it all appears so regimented and unnatural. I love Prince's less defined dancing, where it looks like he's actually just digging his own music and not giving a fuck.
