Do you think prince thought of himself as good looking?

Obviously in his line of work you have to put across confidence but do you think he actually liked the way he looked or was he really insecure about it and it was all a front?

I'm just like everybody else I need love.....and water.

He stated he wrote cream about himself while he was looking in the mirror "You're filthy cute and you know it" lol . And I thought I read somewhere that he wrote wonderful ass about himself too tho.

I think he knew that he was good looking.

I like that he shows extreme confidence in many of his songs but also uses a lot of self-depricating and funny lyrics at times. From "Some people tell me I got great legs..." ( Something In The Water ) to "She´s so fine, and I´m so ugly" ( Peach ), or how he sings that he´d buy more hair if it shouldn´t grow anymore (Prettyman).

" I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Hard to say. That line in Lady Cab Driver about wishing he was handsome and tall like his brother, and the lyrics to Peach could indicate other wise. He probably thought he was cute but not particularly handsome. "Some people think I am kind of cute"..line from Something in the Water and his joking lines in Pretty Man indicate to me that he thought he was pretty but not traditionally handsome--thus the constant usage of makeup to play up what he got.

Cream, to me, is a man trying to convince himself that he is hot stuff. Men don't usually call themselves cute or pretty. I imagine they aspire to be handsome. I do think Prince probably wished he was 'Handsome and tall". Prince was not dumb though, he knew there were things to compensate for height and rugged handsomeness.

To me, he was handsome and pretty at the same time (which in and of itself is untraditional).

supposedly its true but likely prince was trying to give himself a morale booster while getting ready to attempt re-entering the pop charts against younger folks.

Sure, he knew he was good looking (how could he not?) but did he think he was handsome in a traditional sense? I always felt he over-compensated for his lack of size and traditional handsomeness by playing up his "prettiness>"

You might be on to something there.I know I've read stories about how when he was younger he would mention to his sister that he hated being so short. did Prince ever make the top 100 of the sexiest men alive list? I think he should've

Prince knew that he was damn fine. He kept the Chest hair poppin’, he wore lace better than any man has or ever will in human history, and he had an amazing walk...he could strut his stuff with the best of them. And he attracted gorgeous women.

i always thought so and he got better with time, the Prince from his second album looked awful compared to the Prince of the Purple Rain era, maybe because of all the attention to makeup and hair. However, just like we are discussing in a thread on his guitar playing vs. Hendrix, it's subjective, he's not gonna be good looking to everyone. People have said to me they thought he was ugly. and there was an interesting story i told on here before about how i knew a guy who's girlfriend worked at the WB office here in seattle, a day after the lovesexy concert here, Prince went to the office on business, while he was in the office, he chatted the girl up and he asked "don't you like me?" now, this girl from the sounds of it, wasn't a fan, but it's odd that prince would ask her the same thing he asked cindy c in the song. the girl said he had a wierd smile on one side of his face and he was ugly, the smile on the side of his face would be familiar to us fans. Anyway, even here, people are divided, his own fans on whether he was an attractive "beautiful" being or an ugly, unconventional looking man who compensated with his talent.

when Prince died..I was talking to a couple of my female students. One girl (who was biracial but who admitted that she liked "chocolate"-colored men) said P was ugly. The other girl, who was African american, after seeing a picture of P from the Parade era, without being asked, stated how cute he was. Ironically I think had Prince gone without makeup (or far less eyeliner) more folks would have found him attractive. Makeup on a man doesn't appeal to everyone.

Prince was at his most beautiful in my opinion around the musicology era.

I can't see how, by any stretch of the imagination he was ugly but ya, i've heard that too. If he was ugly, the rest of us men are downright abominable.

I always thought he was pretty, no matter what era. I have an older sister (she was never really a fan of his) who told me years ago that she thought he was pretty from the top of his lip upwards. But that changed after he passed and she got a copy of the deluxe version of Purple Rain and saw him in the concert dvd. Now she says he is gorgeous! biggrin I have burned cd's of all of his music for her which she listens to all of the time. She is a true convert now.

I think it was probably the mustache and makeup. He kind of looks like a handsome/cute version of Jafar from ALaddin. It might just be the style.

I remember asking my dad if he thought Marilyn Monroe was beautiful. To my surprise, he said "NO". I asked why. he said that all her supposed beauty was in her makeup. Little did he know that Monroe was quite cute without heavy makeup.

.

i think everyone is insecure, no matter what they accomplish, i have studied the great boxers and the people closest to them, their wives, have often said the same things. "no matter how secure he acted he was very insecure" Ali's wife said that, Sugar Ray Robinson's wife said that, i don't think that goes away with fame and success. And of course there was always the fact that Prince was small, that had to fuck with his head his whole life as a man in a world where men generally rank each other on "can you kick my ass" when all the bullshit goes out the window.
