Before I say anything else, I want to point out that I don't believe Prince committed suicide so don't take this post as my trying to say he did. For mental health professionals, the alarm goes off if a person all of a sudden becomes cheerful, happy or calm after being depressed, anxious, irritable etc. be it from an underlying somatic illness, mental health issues in general, work related stress, interpersonal relationship problems, financial problems etc. It is always stressed to the next of kin, family members, friends, generally people around to pay attention to this one kind of change because they tend to see it as a positive change. However, for a trained individual it is often a big red flag. This behavior is often indicative of the person deciding something, having come to terms, making up their minds thus having a burden lifted off their shoulders. This may or may not be anything serious but it always needs to be evaluated, well, with the person's willingness, of course. A PERSON OFTEN AT THIS TIME REACHES OUT TO PEOPLE HE/SHE MIGHT HAVE BEEN ESTRANGED FROM. Now, I can't say this was the case with Prince. But he was clearly Ill and it was not just an addiction to opiates. One can see there was something somatic as prolonged opioid use doesn't normally alter your physical appearance all of a sudden the way his did. So,before anyone jumps on me, I just wanted to point out that what or how a person looks or acts like on the outside is hardly indicative of their core state be it physical or mental. A smile can mean a hundred different things. [Edited 12/14/17 18:06pm]

All the reason he could have committed suicide. Making admends with people, sending people away and having the cameras removed from Paisley. He threw a party, went to a jazz club and went for a bike ride. He may have been good with the decsions he was making and ready to go.

.

I have considered that Prince may have committed suicide, but after I thought about how he was found in the elevator, I said to myself that Prince would never do such a horrific thing to his associates, friends and employee's. Do you seriously think he would want to be found that way? Do you think he knew he was taking Fentanyl-laced pills?? eek

Yes, but think about this: Prince was a Man who was approaching 60, he was getting on in years, and he was not working-out like he did back in the 80s, 90s and early 2000s. He wasn't as cut/buff/filled-out as he used to be. When you lose muscle mass, you are going to look considerably thinner.

To my mind, the last time he looked this thin in the body was the end of 2009, where we now have confirmation that he was about to have hip surgery (we can therefore assume he was experiencing considerable pain at this juncture).
.
Fast forward 17 years and, yes, age-related loss of muscle mass and collagen means an already ultra-slim person will look scrawny - but I wonder if there are pain-related parallels with 2009. PLUS - and this is something that hasn't been mentioned on this thread thus far - can nobody else see that in these latter-day pictures, he looks sallow / YELLOW?
.
None of us know enough at this stage to say what may have caused such a change in his complexion but, in the pic posted at the start of this thread, he doesn't appear to be wearing foundation so that can't be blamed...To my eye, there is a man here who appears jaundiced - and I wonder if his eyes would have revealed a similar tinge? Of course, they're hidden beneath sunglasses, so...

We May never know the answer to your question. It is only a photo of a moment. He was at a Warriors game here. Perhaps he is smiling because he loved basketball and was happy to be watching the Warriors play. Maybe Damaris Lewis or Kirk Johnson, who accompanied him to the game, made him laugh.
.
As for his appearance, he actually looks his age, which is saying something because he usually looked younger. My guess is that Kim Berry was coloring his hair because I don’t see any gray hairs. The big Afro looked better on him in the late 70s. I liked the baby fro in 2013/2014, but the big Afro was not a good look for him in the 2010s. He looks very pale.

That's right, certainly not in their 50's. I know some people here like to act as though he was elderly but, nope, he was not.

I love this photograph of him. He retained a boyish smile and knew how to have fun, which is something I believe he taught others to do as well.
