It seems like whatever narrative you believe you'll find the information that fits. Tyka said Prince knew something was wrong. When she got the call he'd passed she wasn't shocked and all that. This may be true but how many people have similar feelings about friends or loved ones that never come to fruition.

While we pour over his last words and performances looking for indicators into his state of mind, let's remember Prince often spoke in a cryptic and ethereal manner. In the aftermath of his death we'll seize on a certain comment and say look.

There are some that suggested Prince was preparing for the end while others said he had tours and other projects slated for the future.

.

Very true. Prince was full of mystique, wasn't he? I think he wanted to be remembered that way.

She said she got an e-mail with a picture and a song. She said this e-mail made her realize he was dying. Those were exact words. Some form of communication came from him to her that made her think he was going to die. It was not a feeling or a guess.

He could have been ill and did not have optimistic that things would not improve and continued on with his business. I wonder how many of you have ever had to deal with illness that can drag on and have prognois that can change at a moments notice?

"Some form of communication came from him to her that made her think he was going to die. It was not a feeling or a guess."

If she didn't have any specific information, what was it then? She also said she was preparing for his death. What was that preparation based on?

.

Tyka said she has psychic abilities. lol

.

Seriously though, she never said "he told me he was dying". She interpreted that from his email and picture. It's what she is putting out there and we are supposed to accept it.

I think we're overspeculating it.

Any evidence of an illness? No.

He died of a drug overdose. Plain and simple.

.

We will never know if he was dying from a terminal illness because we are not privy to the full autopsy report. The human mind seeks to find an answer, so not having one leaves us to wonder, and that is something we have to accept, as hard as it is.

I agree. His face is really thin. The smile line is really deep and his cheek is thinner, as is his jawline. The smile gives it away.

In general, you can sorta tell when someone is on a lot of medication. They either get, what we call, medical bloat where they puff up as a side effect of the medication, or their skin & complexion change. They don't necessarily break out; rather their skin can get dry, sallow, gaunt, skin is flaccid and loses its natural elasticity. Meds are a bitch on anyone's body, inside and often out.

Back to Prince, his look really changed since the orange sherbet outfit appearance (possibly before). The gaunt look, loss of weight, pale complexion (lack of color gradient in his face), the old looking skin (old for Prince), I remember just being sorta embarrassed for him when he came out that time. Nothing about him looked right. And while he never had great teeth, they weren't rachet either. They seemed to almost be gaping in some ways.

The photo in question is a terrible example.

I never thought the big fro was a good look on him. Kim Berry said she didn’t like it either. At that Grammy awards appearance it looked like he wasn’t wearing much makeup at all.

.

I didn't mind his Fro that much. It was a look that people weren't used to seeing on him. I think it did make him look smaller too.

I don’t have a problem with a fro per se, he was just too tiny for it. Go back to periods in 2009 and he was super skinny but didn’t have a large fro to highlight it.

I didn't care much for his small Fro......I dunno, it just didn't suit him well. I liked him the best with long straight hair, but the natural Fro was nice.....I always wonder how it would have felt to touch it. lol

We all continue to make plans because we don't know for sure when our time is up.

Also if you’re trying to hide something probably wouldn’t do things to make people suspicious.

Once again she said the e-mail had a picture and a song attached. Don't you think that might have had some specific information in it. The preparation was based on what was in the e-mail. She was very clear about receiving information via this e-mail.

True, but Prince was always extremely thin. As you age, you start to lose muscle-mass and your skin is not as plump as it used to be. This picture below is from 1995.....Now, just imagine that body at age 57.

Before I say anything else, I want to point out that I don't believe Prince committed suicide so don't take this post as my trying to say he did.
For mental health professionals, the alarm goes off if a person all of a sudden becomes cheerful, happy or calm after being depressed, anxious, irritable etc. be it from an underlying somatic illness, mental health issues in general, work related stress, interpersonal relationship problems, financial problems etc. It is always stressed to the next of kin, family members, friends, generally people around to pay attention to this one kind of change because they tend to see it as a positive change. However, for a trained individual it is often a big red flag. This behavior is often indicative of the person deciding something, having come to terms, making up their minds thus having a burden lifted off their shoulders. This may or may not be anything serious but it always needs to be evaluated, well, with the person's willingness, of course. A PERSON OFTEN AT THIS TIME REACHES OUT TO PEOPLE HE/SHE MIGHT HAVE BEEN ESTRANGED FROM.
Now, I can't say this was the case with Prince. But he was clearly Ill and it was not just an addiction to opiates. One can see there was something somatic as prolonged opioid use doesn't normally alter your physical appearance all of a sudden the way his did.
So,before anyone jumps on me, I just wanted to point out that what or how a person looks or acts like on the outside is hardly indicative of their core state be it physical or mental. A smile can mean a hundred different things.

eek I beg to differ! Prince's teeth were perfect imo, plus they were his, unlike many 'fake' looking artists.

That said, he certainly looked weaker towards the end, but the trouble is that so many celebrities resort to plastic surgery even from an early age that when one does not, they kind of stand out like a sore thumb. Prince was always himself, did not do anything to change his face other than a little touch of foundation here and there and some eyeliner (I saw him very very close!). In fact, he seemed more relaxed and seemed to have reached an even higher level of self-acceptance in his last year so I wouldn't be surprised if he had also dropped the make up too, plus for heavens sake, he was 57!

As for the OP's question, I would say yes, he would probably still smile, because his happiness came from within and he knew our bodies are just vessels for the soul, therefore not meant to last forever... So he was probably ok with whatever was going on healthwise, even though not necessarily pain-free.

I agree with your last paragraph in particular.

I think his schedule in March 2016 was pretty hectic. From concerts in Oakland....flying back to Minnesota....flying to NY to promote the book.....back to Minnesota.....concerts in Canada. It may have been too much - especially if he was dealing with an illness. The last week of March 2016 it seems there was a break before the Atlanta shows were to begin. Not sure what happened during that time, but he seemed to have more frequent health issues at this point. He saw Dr. S April 6 and again on the 20th

My own view is that he had no sense anything was terminal. However, he knew that he wasn't feeling well and perhaps, for the first time, wasn't getting better quickly enough. His increased workload at that time was probably an attempt to convince himself he could get through it and, by doing so, prove things weren't that bad.

The hip pain was probably rough but, again, not terminal. His reliance on pain medication was becoming a big issue, though, and the incident on the plane was a big wake-up call. Crucially, in the week after, no one on the team was extra vigilant and then he overdosed again. What's sad is that, if someone had been with him, he'd probably be alive today.

All conjecture, of course.

When Damaris Lewis was interviewed by Don Lemon on CNN (I think it was the 21st or 22nd) she said she told Prince he needed to rest. She was right but I don’t think that word was in his vocabulary.
