sorry, but i still cant see any talent in what he supposedly added to the performance. they always start when the prerequisite "uh uh" and its all down hill from there. theres nothing pleasing tonally about his voice, and if your performance is going to based on words rather than any singing ability, please be able to say "truth" and not "troof", please be able to enunciate. | |

He was actually reciting the rhyme he had just recorded earlier for the "PRETZELBODYLOGIC" remix that was never released. Could have been completely freestyled and Prince gave him themes like "Truth", etc. [Edited 12/13/17 10:09am] | |

I thought it waa great. I was one of those people who didn't "get" Kendrick Lamar at first, but then i heard Good Kid M.A.D.D. City. It is a brilliant record imo and it solidified me as a fan. My son who initially introduced me to his music couldn't wait to tell me about this performance when he found it on Youtube after 4/21/16. It waa a great way for Prince to reach a younger generation with his music. It's a hurtful place, the world, in and of itself. We don't need to add to it. We all need one another. ~ PRN | |

I like it too and I think it made me respect the direction Prince was going in. Embracing art that isn't just like his own and has curse words in it because the content is more important than the language...that's a Prince I like to see. Lamar didn't curse on the stage but the LP of his that prince liked contained curse words.

How many rappers do we need in a lifetime to let us know how it is in “these streets”? They’re the ones promoting the lifestyle and violence. Give me some real music where people play real instruments. | |

I’m so tired of the same ol stories. Now before you go off calling me a racist, I’m Hispanic born and raised in 5th ward Houston,Tx. I’ve seen all that comes from the ghetto and rapping about it never changed anything. You see the same guys on the corner that were there when I was growing up. Generation after generation born into poverty,drugs,alcohol, and incarceration. But yet the new kids coming up are doing the same things. This time let’s tatoo the hell out our body’s,get a wild haircut,let our pants sag till our asses are fully exposed and then cry about nobody wanting to hire us. It’s all about taking responsibility and being in charge of your life and future. Now let’s get back to talking about a real musician, a great talent that was a huge loss to humanity, a person worth grieving for. i can dig your thoughts...and there are responsible hiphop artists who think the way you do...the problem is theyre not the ones that get marketed and distributed for mass consumption...the record labels and their associated marketers and distributors want the negativity to be sold and told (as "music"), in their efforts to further their own diaboloical agendas...cant totally blame the systematically disenfranchised people for taking the bait and trying to reach out for the few crumbs that they feel can help their usually desperate situations... |

I have to let you know how much I respect and appreciate your reply. I got worried there for a minute and thought you and everyone else was gonna go off. I’m just letting you know what I’ve seen in that community for the last 50 yrs. You’re right about record companies and what they choose to sell. I grew up when the Ghetto Boys were just getting popular and got to see the shift in Houston to gangster from house party type rap ( fun fact: Bushwick Bill started doing Christian Rap and nobody cared ).Crack had just made it down to TX and I saw things that I never thought I’d see. There were a few attempts to get things under control with politicians and a few black leaders who opposed raps violence and disrespect towards woman but it didn’t get the momentum I thought it would. A few rappers even tried with songs like “unity” and “self destruction” but it was a little confusing because some of those same rappers had songs out that contradicted the cause. Fast forward and I’m seeing guys that I’ve known all their lives and they’re living a lie. I know for a fact they didn’t have it so bad growing up and for some reason they feel they can realate. We’ve also heard stories of rappers who are perpetrating a fraud by altering or even making up their history and background to fit the image. Kids need to wake up. They’re are more people of color in all positions of government,business, and entertainment now than ever. There’s no excuse, we can all do better. We saw even Prince change it up to get the right message out. I’ve been to his concerts where I almost felt Like I was in church. Again, thanks for hearing me out and allowing us to have a civilized debate. That’s what a forum is all about. Just by handling the way you did gives me hope. Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas | |
