good writing but i never really liked the tune, always had that throwaway quality to it that many of his tunes did simply because he was always moving forward. a bit of self plagiarism of Purple Rain too.

I don't hear Purple rain in that song much at all (maybe in the looseness of the verse, but the chorus doesn't remind me of Purple Rain) . I like the song quite a bit especially how it opens with the chorus and how it intensifies as it goes.

I love, love , LOVE this song....always have, and always will.

I like how it starts with the chorus, I like the melody, the instruments, and most of all the lyrics and the way he sings the song, and of course the imagery used in the song.

I understand why PeteSilas feels that it is a bit derivative of Purple Rain but that is just another reason why I love this song so much. It´s quintessential Prince to me, and only he could write and sing a song like this.

This is one of my favorite gems from the deep purple era (1982-1985) and I am so glad that I found a decent soundquality version of the only live rendition he gave because the earlier version I had sounded very muffled and barely listenable.

.

I like the passion in his voice, the things he sings about.....girls skating on a lake, images of winter and summer (swimming in her daddy´s pool and getting caught), banana daiquiris and drinking them until he´s blind....I mean who could come up with such weird lyrics back then? lol

It sounds so autobiographical and passionate that I still find it hard to believe that the lyrics are not based on a true story.

Thanks for posting Latin...this article was unknown to me.

" I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"
