Where in the Bible is this 'purgatory' mentioned?

It is where you wait while your soul is judged. I don't care what any of you think. I hate drugs, Prince was a drug user ad that is a sin. It does not matter as he was not a Catholic, but a Jehovahs Witness a heretic sect/cult according to most mainstream churches.

You should check out John Lee Hooker's Ain't No Heaven, Ain't No Burning Hell. A Dylan fan should love it.

Yes, this, plus "nothing, he's just dead" is as valid a response as "he's in Valhöll, quaffing and fighting" or whatever.

As one who professed a very real faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour Prince is now united in Spirit with God and will eventually be ressurected in bodily form when the New Earth is created.

This exactly.

The believer "dies in Christ" and according to the promise, you will be ressurected to be with him in paradise when he comes again. On that day when he comes again, every knee will bow, and every tongue will confess him.

I'd like to believe that Prince is in Heaven now and that I will see him again after I leave this world myself. I plan to search for him when I hopefully get to Heaven, Prince should be easy to find though: I just walk in the direction where the best music is coming from. cool Anyway, amongst other things that's good enough a reason for me to live a good life, to be a good man so that my chances increase to get to the same place where Prince is. yes

I suppose it would depend on the depths of his sins in life and the circumstances of his demise, he could still well be tied here with unfinished business. As a former Jedi I would have once believed he is one with the Force and appearing to his apprentice, but while I'm a born again Satanist I'm still ambivalent to the idea of finality

Salvation has nothing to do with 'how good' we are or even how much we do,

It is neither a competition nor are we saved by our own hands.

It is the blood of Christ that saves us and I think Prince knew that.

As for the 'purgatory', I don't think it is in the Bible, so based on scriptures alone,

There is no second chance to redeem ourselves once we are on the other side...

What does that actually even MEAN ??????????????

Because Christ died a blooody death we are now granted a free pass ?

So any old person can do whatever he wants in this life be a complete prick and arshole

so long as he Believes in Jesus, he s all good?

Nope sorry....someone has grossly misunderstood the mission of The Christ

No, it does not. In the early days before Christ, you had to be constantly making sacrifices to atone for sin, and follow the Laws of the Old Testament. God allowed the death of his son to be the propitiation for all sins, nailing the old laws "to the cross."

You cannot "earn" your way to heaven, you must believe in Christ, and turn away from the path you followed before. In the Bible, you are to be baptised not to wash away your sin (as Christ already did that by dying for all who believe), but as a public testament to others as to your belief. You cannot work your way into heaven, but true faith without good works is dead. In other words, the true believer will love all others so much that you want to serve others and help them. Also, good works without faith will not help at all to insure you a place in the Book of Life. rainbo

When you do sin, and all people on earth do, you pray to be forgiven, and ask him to help you not continue in that sin. Hope this helps....if you are unsure the truthfulness of this, search the scriptures to see.....

Prince is now just a pile of ashes, and that's where he is.

If Prince is somewhere - like you believers would like to believe - what clothes make up and high heels is he wearing ? Can he still have sex ? he's one hell of a horny Sexy Motherfucker, you know that.

Since some of you state that he 'lives on' in some 'heaven'... how does he live ther ? eternal and forever without sex and a guitar ? Too funny. smile

This is not religion, but common sense
It's time for you to get down, get down
Get off the fence
No son shall die, no mother shall cry
All in favor, say "aye" (Aye)
Because time's so hard to deal with
Deliverance is at hand, at hand, at hand

Oooh, oooh
Oooh (deliverance, hey, hey) oooh
Ahhh, ahhh
Ahhh, ahhh

Who are they (They)
That would turn a deaf ear to the peaceable ones who bring good news? (Good news?)
With time there will be no wars (Wars)
And the way in which to achieve it
Who got the blues? (Blues)
You can ease the pain of a few (pain) until God intervenes
Ain't nothin', nothin' man can do (can do)
'Cept 'cause each other injury
Somebody say (somebody say)
Katrina levies, oh, oh

Oooh, oooh (Ayy, [?])
Oooh, oooh
(You got to understand)
Ahhh, ahhh
That you'll never [?]
Ahhh, ahhh

Yeah, you...
Woo! Come on

Because time's so hard to deal with, now understand

Well... I'll grant you there are not a lot of atheist songs, but there is at least one great example (no, not "imagine")

.

Superstition.

.

"When you believe in things that you don't understand, then you'll suffer. Superstition ain't the way"

.

Douglas Adams stated it succinctly:

“Anything that happens, happens.

Anything that, in happening, causes something else to happen, causes something else to happen.
.
Anything that, in happening, causes itself to happen again, happens again.
.
It doesn’t necessarily do it in chronological order, though.”

.

It is a duty to point out the delusion that religion is. The problems it creates and the pure evil that happens because of it. We need to always stand up and protest when people are made to be "under god". We must correct people whenever they say "christian child" or "muslim child". They are children of religious parents (and get indoctrinated). No child has ever said "I prefer this religion, I think it is the truth" about a religion other than their parents'. Plenty of children have said "this religion stuff doesn't make sense", with different levels of disapproval following.

.

It is just fine that you believe that dogma can give you all the answers and that the totality of knowledge is contained in a book. But it is not fine if you push it on others. And since religionistas take that liberty, I will take the liberty of pointing out their delusion and unproven certainty. There is so much pointing towards all religions being wrong and nothing that proves religion. (using regular falsification)

.

The nice thing about being an atheist is that I am open to change my mind if new evidence comes to light. Religionistas always get angry and try to reason things away that do not follow their chosen worldview.

.

So yes, it is fine, even necessary for an atheist to post in this thread. Prince died, and that was the end. We have hours and hours of product that his spirit made. He made the world better, as far as I'm concerned, on the whole. I will carry him with me for the rest of my life. But he will never ever re-appear on this world and it is insulting to suggest it, especially since many people are still hurting from his death and it is very tempting to give in to the poisonous certainty that religions give.

What's poisonous about that?

A belief in a God that created the whole (infinite) universe in all its marvellous scientific complexities is far more flexible than one that doesn't even allow that possibility. Not all in life is about physical evidences, otherwise why would you trust sitting on a chair since you don't always have a guarantee that the chair was built safely enough to support you. Our lives are based on blind faith in everything that surrounds us without us even realising. What makes a material world more reliable to you than a spiritual one? As for your other comment, the Bible never claimed to give all the answers about the mystery of God, rather, it emphasizes that mankind will never comprehend God fully as our minds are too small to take in the infinite world and most of us think too much 'inside the box' to open up to a power of this magnitude (read the Book of Job up until the end if you don't believe me).

This God I am talking about is real and has nothing to do with superstition, trust me.
