Augmented and mixed reality is coming...so why not an interactive Prince?

Can u imagine it? They could have a holographic Prince do videos of songs that we've never heard previously in Virtual Reality or Augmented or Mixed reality from a company like Apple or Magic Leap!

Each one of us could experience our own separate Prince concert to whatever songs we wanted, if the estate was to do something like that. If that's not tasteful, imagine his music set to a series of trippy or psychedelic light shows.

Headsets are coming from HTC or Oculus or Meta or Magic either now or in the future. So why not?

Thoughts?

Puhleaze!!!

They have yet to release a decent remaster or even decent stuff from the vaults and you dream of projects that divert attention from the main task.

Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

Whether it's ethical to recreate deceased people thru holographic technology, VR or even robotic doubles is probably going to be a major debate in the second half of the 21st century. And it's not just going to be about celebrities, it's going to be about your deceased pets, parents, children, mates or friends. There's a Black Mirror episode addressing this. I think it's a little too early for such a debate, though, since technology isn't yet capable of providing satisfying simulations.

.

In the end, the question asked is whether we own a right to our own image after death and whether we allow this to happen before we pass, or whether we don't and it's up to those surviving us to recreate us. The ramifications are endless, from a person being unable to find a new companion because they choose to live with a virtual double of their deceased husband or wife, to people being able to "rape" a deceased friend by having sex with their virtual double, to people being able to inflict trauma on someone else by confronting them to a dead relative they have recreated, while the other person wants to move on and can't stand the notion of "meeting" their dead relative. Even with celebrities: you want Prince to sing for you? Well, what about someone who wants Prince to make love to them? Should we allow people to purchase a Prince robot and use it as a sex toy, or watch simulated holographic videos of Prince and Vanity having sex? Disgusting as it sounds to me, I'm sure the thought would be appealing to others, and if there's a market...

.

It's going to be a fascinating debate and we'll need safeguards but, honestly, I don't have a definitive answer to offer, it's too vast and still too abstract a debate. But we need to be prepared for it, for it's going to happen sooner than we think.

It is tacky. I can't understand how such a thing could be entertaining beyond the videogame jockeys of the world. But for admirers of the man and the music--no.

Unfortunately, if circumstances are run by the pursuit of the dollar we may eventually see such a thing. hrmph

.

Holograms are BEYOND cheap and tacky. Creepy.

....and a "personal" hologram? Puh-leeze.

Didn't someone try this ploy here a few months ago and got laughed offstage?

Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me.
