A simile is a comparison - something is like another thing. You can always tell a simile by the use of "like" or "as."

A metaphor is when one object is used directly in place of another. The two things are not being compared - one thing is actually the other thing.

For example, in Little Red Corvette, a fast woman is not like a sports car - she is the sports car. In the same song, "horses run free" is a metaphor for having sex.

I definitely understood what you were saying earlier. It's a trippy little image that does its job well, which is playing in our mind, painting various notions of his meanings. In short, it's an image that makes us see a few different things, and that's another reason why we like Prince.

yes, i'm aware of that, in a recent thread i did mention that prince did tend to get lazy and or not revise himself with his rhyme schemes. when you're working at his pace it's bound to happen but that's why you need revision. i mentioned it with the delores/brontasaurus rhyme but there are many.

I always saw Brother Louis is a tall, scary man à la Leatherface. Like I said in a recent TBA thread, that song's imagery evokes a mix between the Gett Off music video and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
