I’ve been writing down the ones I didn’t know:
Promise 2 b true
Moral majority
I am fine (although it’s the bit that we hear backwards at the end of Darling Nikki)
Electrocution
Money
Untitled song with Stevie Nicks
Too Sexy
There are probably more, I’m about half way through the book (which is fantastic, by the way).

so the writer actually heard these songs ? Were they mentioned on princevault before the release of this book ?

I heard some of these, and the ones that I didn't were described to me by those who worked on them. I wouldn't put Too Sexy on this list. That was a b-side for Sheila and was released.

There are likely more songs that were outtakes, but many of those are not yet known.

The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

Thank you! It keeps selling out in many European countries! Every time I look it says 7 copies left or out of stock. I guess that is good but if they know people are ordering them, maybe stock more copies so that they can be sold! lol

I'm really happy that people have been enjoying the book. I hope to do more.

For those of you who are keeping up with the podcasts that Duane is doing, Grown Folks Music released part 2 of our conversation with him today.

In this episode, we primarily discuss the book, Prince and the Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions: 1983 and 1984. We are very excited that Duane’s book is the subject of our inaugural episode of Grown Folks Music's Behind The Book podcast series. We are extremely honored to have Duane Tudahl, the author of Prince and the Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions: 1983 and 1984, and Miss TLC, the creator of Princeversaries on Twitter join GFM’s The Love Man and Polished Solid for this conversation.

You can also listen on Stitcher:

https://www.stitcher.com/...e/52608599

or iTunes:

https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/gfm-podcast-network/id1085920009?mt=2

Our original conversation lasted almost 6 hours so we decided to split the conversation into two separate episodes and also two separate podcast series. However, keep in mind, that both episodes and shows will be the same conversation so we’re hoping you’ll also listen to part one of the conversation, GFM’s Inside The Album Podcast: Purple Rain Deluxe, as well.

To hear part 1 of the conversation visit SoundCloud:

We strongly recommend madhouseman do a Studio Sessions trilogy à la Star Wars.

Book IV: Prince and the Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions: 1983 and 1984

Book V: Prince and the Parade/Sign o' the Times Era Studio Sessions: 1985 and 1986

Book VI: Prince and the Lovesexy/Batman Era Studio Sessions: 1987 and 1988

Book I: Prince and the For You Era Studio Sessions: 1977 and 1978

Book II: Prince and the Prince/Dirty Mind Era Studio Sessions: 1979 and 1980

Book III: Prince and the Controversy/1999 Era Studio Sessions: 1981 and 1982

Book VII: Prince and the Graffiti Bridge/Diamond and Pearls Era Studio Sessions: 1989 and 1990

Book VIII: Prince and the Prince logo.svg Era Studio Sessions: 1991 and 1992

Book IX: Prince and the Come/The Gold Experience Era Studio Sessions: 1993 and 1994

Come on Duane, whad'ya say? lol

This is actually brilliant and a variation of something I've considered. If people would want future books, I'd be happy to do them if this one is successful. Thank you!

Hope you don't mind me asking, but what is the source of such detailed information on studio sessions? It appears like confidential / private information of studio session. What does it rely on? Just wondering how it is possible to gather this level of information. Thanks!

Just finished the book and I'll echo what others have said. Fantastic. It really puts you back into those years and makes you feel a part of everything. Gives you a glimpse and helps you understand what all was going on. Learned a lot and made me think about the songs in a new, exciting light.

Was surprised the story about him falling in the bathtub during the Purple Rain rehearsals because it wasn't attached properly wasn't mentioned. That did happen right? Or am I mis-remembering something.

Also, when it's mentioned that the Family track "Yes" was originally titled "Lisa" it all became clear because of that one descending chord progression being the same in both songs (0:42 in "Yes" and 1:05 in "Lisa"). This probably woudn't have been as apparent to me had it not been for the recent rehearsal leak where he vamps on "Lisa" for close to an hour.

Hope there are more volumes to come.

My favorite (and most wanted) gift recieved today as well. I also got Alex Hahn & Steve Parke's new books, but they're going on the back burner because this is the one I've been chomping at the bit for. I read books about Prince very slowly (often pausing to listen to music discussed or just think about what is written) so, it looks like I'll be reading about Prince throughout the winter. wink

I always know a book about Prince is going to be good if I need 2 bookmarks, one for my place in the book and one to hold my place in the reference section. cool

I am the same way with some of the books out there. I like having a physical book to be able to book mark it and look up details. I'm glad you are enjoying it and hearing the music as you read it is a great way to experience it. Thank you for the props.

Prince was pretty much the anti-Steely Dan in the studio during this time. He was incredibly un-fussy regarding microphones, sonic fidelity, etc.
