The Gold Experience

What an album! Gosh I wish I could have the promo gold vinyl. I'm not gonna pay 600 bucks for it though. No album is worth that much in my eyes. Anyhow back to the subject, I was watching the Gold music video on YouTube. Had anybody on the org went to the tapping of the video? I heard he performed the song twice or something like that. Did they play it live or used the actual track and simulate live playing. Did he performed any other songs? What was the night like?

THE BEST ALBUM EVER!

GOLD - I airways wondered if anyone knew the middle aged man in the video with the big smile - so full of joy. I always thought he represented all of how i feel about Prince in that moment.

If Gold was released any time between 1988-1991 it would have been a Number One album.

90s Prince wasn’t my favorite but this album is top notch. I wish Prince would have played Dolphin more live. Listen below at the 1hr35min mark. Pure bliss.

It could have been a # 1 album in 1994, following one of his biggest hits. The whole WB war ruïned everything. When the album finally did come out, it was way too late and we had already heard the songs on bootlegs and in concert. The excitement of a new Prince album was totally gone by that time.

The reason why I said 1988-1991 it was during the period before Grunge and also before the WB fiasco was in full bloom. I will add that even though I heard the music on bootlegs I was still there at 12:00 Midnight to buy it.

I might be in the minority, but I felt the album worked live (and a brave show at the time to only play new songs), but hardly any of the songs of that era worked so well on record, listening at home.

Yup I was there. They replayed the track many many many times and he went through the motions of performing it.

I don't remember any other songs being performed.

I was at the video shoot too. It was on October 8th. They did videos for Rock 'N' Roll Is Alive! (and it lives in Minneapolis), Days of Wild, and Gold for the VH1 Love4OneAnother special. They did Gold twice. After the video shoot they played We March, Love...Thy Will Be Done, and Starfish and Coffee. On Oct 29th there was another video shoot for Return of the Bumpsquad, The Jam, The Ride, and Bambi. The Jam and The Ride were used in the VH1 special too.

I didn't know there was a video made for Return Of The Bump Squad, love to see that. Was he dressed as Tora Tora like in The Good Life and Get Wild?

Love to have that vinyl - but so rare and expensive!

.

Happy to have a CD of it though and the original cassette of it I bought on its release day - September 26 1995. Happy memories, bought it as the wrekka stow opened and played it on repeat for 10 hours solid, I missed classes for that shit as it was a Tuesday. Every song was a banger.

.

I have heard that album on vinyl is really rare, will have to be content with my 12 inches of Eye hate u which had all the Vinyl xtras (Quiet night mix etc). That album is still one of my favourites.

This album is in my top 3 for sure! I hope and pray a vinyl reissue is released soon cos in my opinion everything about the album is perfect! Gold just gives me goosebumps every time I hear it and I would have killed to see him perform it live! Tracks like Endorphinmachine, Dolphin and Shy are just pure bliss! Love this album til the day I die! 😩😩😩

They weren't really videos, but more live performance. I don't believe he was dressed as Tora Tora that night, but there was a show that fall where he was dressed as Tora Tora and they played a lot off of The Exodus Has Begun. Prince's vocals were up front in the mix.

Cool, thanks. I’d love that show with the Exodus tracks to surface

That album made me a fan when I bought it back in 95.

Some of the production didn’t age that good, but the songs itself were killer, to this day.
I remember me and my best friend having a blast listening to pussy control. Two 12 year olds appreciating a sensible song about pussy with my mother checking in what we were doing, what could possibly go wrong biggrin

But It Would have been better if he trimmed the filler. I prefer 9-10 track albums with no filler like the early days

1. P Control

2. NPG Operator

3. Endorphinmachine

4. Shhh

5. NPG Operator

6. The Most Beautiful Girl In The World

7. Dolphin

8. NPG Operator

9. Now

10. Billy Jack Bitch

11. Rock N' Roll Is Alive

12. Eye Hate U

13. NPG Operator

14. Gold

This would be a five star (out of five) rated album

I agree, take Homesquids list of songs, lose the NPG Operator segues, and add Gustavo Ribas suggested extras and you have an album approaching perfection. I would also put 319 back on, that song is efinitely great with its sexy lyrics, falsetto, Kiss like vibe and underrated.

.

I would put it like this

.

Days of Wild

Pussy control

The Ride

Endorphinmachine

Shy!

TMBGITW

Dolphin

Now

Interactive

319

Billy Jack Bitch

Rocknrollisalive and lives in Minneapolis (But louder with even more guitars)

Eye Hate U

Gold

.

That album would be a six star album and would be challenging Sign o the Times.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

I was there too. You remember all of this? Your memory is that sharp of this event? Or did you look it up on some Prince site? Because what I really remember, most of all, was him coming out, over and over and over, on that moving walkway. I kind-of forgot if he played live after it?
