My Prince connection...what's yours?

(Besides the Music,of course)

I have often heard the saying, "only seven degrees of separation". As I go through life, many times I feel it is less than that. Although I grew up in the same generation as Prince, I lived far away from Minnesota, and involved in my own life and family as his music evolved although I was always a fan.

A few years ago, a man moved to our area that was a master wood-worker. He also played music and was a good guitar player and singer. One day at a trail ride picnic, he mentioned he had done a lot of wooodwork and cabinets while living in MN, some even for famous people. I casually said, "Oh yeah...who?" He mentioned a few projects, then said he and his shop staff at the time did a whole set of studios for an artist while up there, a guy named "Prince." I said you mean THE Prince? He said, yeah, you know the black dude from Minneapolis? I almost fell off my haybale at that point.

I asked him, do you have any pictures of your work? Sure, he said, I'll bring them to church sometime. Anyhow, long story short, he did and it was hard to imagine my elderly friend just working away at Paisley Park in the 1980's. I loved his work so much that we had him build our cabinets in our current house. Neat to think the same hands crafted the wood in my kitchen and also studio A!

So, there is my connection...want to share yours?

Good morning children...take a look out your window, the world is falling...

That is a great connection.
When I was 10, Prince soul got to me from Tv eye contact.

It wasn't attraction, it was the you seem genuine vibe and I liked how his energy felt...like a kinship, he seemed to live in a magical spiritual palace

Prince is and was otherworldly...but human and cool.

That's all the little connection I claim.

Prince loved the Vikings.
My first cousin played tight end for them (and the Oakland Raiders).
Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me.

Since I see nothing but "half-assing" from everyone, besides the OP, I've got a story to tell:

Back around '93 or '94, in Detroit, I was in a kiddie rap group called "The Loco Boyz" & we were recording our first [& only] track in some guys home studio [it was in his attic, if I recall]. My best friend's [who was also in the group] father was already in the music business. He was telling us how he could get us a deal, & was also telling us that he to go meet with a famous friend later that night.

Being nosy, I asked him who, & he said, "Prince". I said "cool"....but I was kinda disappointed, because @ the time, I wasn't much of a Prince fan. I was HEAVILY an MJ fan, & had not yet been drenched by the glorious "Purple Cloud" I would later experience only a couple of years later.

My friends father even asked us if we wanted to go with him to meet Prince that night, & being stupid & young, we all said no. He tried to explain to us Prince's significance, but we weren't having it.

....If only I could have a re-do.

sad sad sad Never got that close again.....

I have aspergers, and I don't know if Prince was one 2. But some of his actions reminded me of me and other aspergers. Well, we're not all the same types, but Prince had some ways that I have 2. And I only feel connected to people who are just like me, because I feel too strange in this world. And Prince is one of them. MJ and Eminem are supposed to be apsergers 2 and I feel connected to them too.

Of course no one can say that they are aspergers you only find out when you test them, but somehow I automatically connect with them. And I have never felt connected to anyone who isn't an aspie. And I feel like, if I'd met them, they'd get me as I get them, you know what I mean. I understand the way Prince handled his adult life, because, I'd do the same if I could. Building my Paisly Park and avoid going out as much as I can.

Or when people said that he could come off as cold or not being able to show his feelings.

But it's not only that. I feel connected to Prince on so many levels. I'm only 5'2 too, when I found out that he wasn' tall I was happy, because I know that people showed him respect. And the love-hate relationship between him and his dad, I have the same with some of my family members. His music always helps me whem I'm having a hard time.

Tho I love all three of them, MJ, Eminem and Prince. I feel more connected to Prince, because, I don't want to look back too. I don't think you can go on with your life if you look back.

Dang, that's (at least) four of us here at the Org!!

However, being on the spectrum doesn't make you connected to other people there. Most of the people on the spectrum I know are the ones I met normally, that means through schools, hobbies, etc. And then we funnily outed ourselves to each other.

I also believe Prince was on the spectrum. And he apparently believed that, too, but never got an official diagnosis. It would have been nice to see him lurking incognito at WrongPlanet.org tho biggrin

I believe that too. I understand what you want to say with that. smile Maybe I put this wrong tho. I wanted to say, that I feel like Prince is among the people who would understand me, because he sometimes reminded me of myself. I kind of deal the same way with life like he did. That's what I meant with the "connection".

Are you on WrongPlanet.org? Didn't know about such a Forum. smile
