Okay, I finally decided to get the Blue-Ray Collection. I've only seen PR so far and I heard that Graffiti Bridge was not a great movie, so I plan to never watch it, tho it's in it. BUT, UTCM is also part of the collection and now the thing with that movie is, that some people really like it and some people really don't.

I already ordered it, it's coming next week and now my question is, would you recommend watching the movie? Or not?

Graffiti Bridge is a terrible movie (in my opinion) but if you're into Prince, then you should definitely watch it. Several performances, more Morris and Jerome, interesting set design.

Under the Cherry Moon is great fun.

I don't know for sure, as I only speak English, but, I suspect that much of the humor in both UTCM & GB may not translate so well to German or other languages. Here's hoping I'm wrong.

There's a lot of physical comedy.

Some people just dont connect with it for a number of reasons... Personally I love it and I totally get what Prince was trying to create! Its a satire, the use of humour, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people's stupidity or vices, particularly a take on the old 1920/30 Hollywood movies and the rich and famous who flocked to the south of France to flaunt their wealth needlessley.... overly acted, bad dialogue and of course its in black and white. Basically Prince was taking the piss throughout.... with a god damn excellent soundtrack! I love the sense of fun and humour throughout and I think Prince and Christopher (Princes character) are pretty much one and the same person...

We can Funk!!!!

I have a hard tiem reading as satire since so much of it seems to want to take itself seriously. Prince seems so self conscious and his character is kind of an asshole but it's supposed to be OK because he's SO COOL. The death, Tricky crying and the class warfare elements all suggest a film meant to be taken straight up. I can't even put it in the "so bad it's good" category, unlike Grafitti Bridge.

I think Prince had potential as an actor and could have worked in certain roles (I started a thread about it) but UTCM is not a good film. What's its underlying message beyond "Prince is a cool awesome guy?" Its tone is all over the place.

YES!!!

Under the Cherry Moon is a must

the music is wonderful

the visuals/imagery is wonderful

And it's pretty good up to a point, when it looks like clearly Prince took over the directing.
There is an alternative ending everyone else like and thought should have been in the movie.
But Prince wanted someone to die, since he couldn't get it in Purple Rain.

The opening scene is wonderful.

I put off watching UTCM for a few years myself until just recently seeing it for the first time. I didn't expect to enjoy it that much (reputation...) but I LOVED it!!!! I actually thought it was pretty hilarious. I haven't laughed that much at a movie, non-ironically, in a while. smile
