Probably one of those colorized, a la "TCM" horrible color quality, versions that have been going around since the late 1990's...

Neversin.

I don't care, I would die to see this film in color. It's nice in b/w, it's charming, but I've been watching it in b/w since '86 - it was filmed in color and then turned b/w during post process, so there must be a color version in WB's vault, right?

Keep your headphones on.

Earlier this year someone posted a Facebook link on here for the alternate opening for the Under the cherry moon movie and it's still there.

I have been saying that for the last 14 years here, but it is usually followed by a deluge of people yelling blasphemy. It was a giant mistake making this black and white, it would have had much more mass appeal in color, and if there was ever a movie that should be in color, it is this, the scenery, the outfits, etc. Just look at how this movie would have popped in those animated gifs posted, amazing. I really hope this color version comes our way someday.

I totally agree. The 80s was a bright, colorful decade. In 1986,no one was really excited about paying money to see a black and white movie. The movie would have had more mass appeal if it had been in color.

.

Who gives a rat's ass whether or not it would've had more mass appeal in color at this point? It have been over 30 years. Probably time to move on from the fact that the movie bombed.

.

At any rate, Prince made an artistic decision to release the film in B&W -- why is that so hard for some poeple to respect and accept that decision.

I’ve been informed that my opinion is worth less than those expressed by others here.

I personally never respected or accepted his decision to release it in black & white simply because it was a stupid decision. Making a bad business decision for the sake of being artsy-fartsy is just dumb. Besides, studies have shown that people are less likely to watch movies in black & white than in color, and I'm sure that was a contributing factor in low box office turnout. Just as a side note, people are also less likely to watch a movie with subtitles even less than a movie that's in black & white. I have wanted to see Under The Cherry Moon in color since it first came out, and I still do. I would gladly get rid of Graffiti Bridge forever in exchange for Under The Cherry Moon in color, but that's just me.

Those clips look to have been "hand coloured" rather than the original colour film. (Like people have done to old films made in black and white)

Fully agree knowing I saw a picture of Mary Sharon and her dress seems indeed purple.

There are NO CLIPS. Just gifs. Someone took GIFs of the movie and colorized them...that's it.

I don't argue with people about my opinions. Scram. I said what I said.

actually they were clips ... pretty short ones but still clips ... I made gifs to post them here.
but I agree with you concerning the colorizing ... well it’s obvious 😊 ... but still fun to have them 💜

I dunno, color look pretty legit. Water, wood, it's detailed, colors oversaturated but if you were to do this, even with plugins it takes years.
If it has been circulating "for ages" (whatever that means), After Effects wasn't that good just a decade ago. It's a big pro job, you need a budget for it.
So either these gifs are very short proofs of concept, else the whole film may be existing in HD color and has a chance to come from an official but unreleased color test printing.

So if there's someone who did this and is willing to take a whole year,
I would suggest a Kickstarter.
As with Deliverance, we'll get away with it: "colored for artistical purposes", we'd say.

But I'd tone it down a nudge.
This is the French Riviera, not Las Vegas.
Prince ain't Liberace.

If someone colorized the entire movie, then they would also be making some creative decisions on what things were what color... and that is kind of odd.

I think it's a shame to go to all those beautiful, exotic locations to film a movie, and then release it in black and white confused viewers weren't able to see all the vibrant colors and really experience those breathtaking locations
